Boring, boring, boring
Revisado: 03-11-25
Another M Wolff novel filled with hard page turning and repeating facts. Michael Wolf is once again the narrator and he is totally boring. I believe he is now in the business of only trying to sell books without substantial material or entertaining performance behind it. My best advice is to skip this book and only read summaries of it instead – you won’t miss a thing.!

Very good historical story despite its slow going. Very good characters and very descriptive portraits of each. Will have to read again with less distractions.

Historia
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Very colorful descriptions of people, places and things. Very good story for about 85% of the way through.

Story runs out of steam towards the end completely breaks down in its ending. In other words, very poor but happy ending.

Historia
Alan Mathison Turing. Mathematician, philosopher, codebreaker, a founder of computer science, and the father of Artificial Intelligence, Turing was one of the most original thinkers of the last century - and the man whose work helped create the computer-driven world we now inhabit. But he was also an enigmatic figure, deeply reticent yet also strikingly naive. Turing's openness about his homosexuality at a time when it was an imprisonable offense ultimately led to his untimely death at the age of only 41.

Interesting overview
Revisado: 08-09-22
Interesting overview but somewhat shallow story of Alan Turing. Would have been so much more if the story covered the “life” and “ times” of Alan Turing. Instead the story put put too much emphasis on the “Turing Model” or “Tiring Method” without making it overly clear, on a simple and easy to grasp, basis. I suppose more reading or research is needed in order to filly appreciate and understand the brilliance and intelligence of this giant of a code breaker and computer pioneer.

Colorful but rather drab
Revisado: 07-23-22
Colorful and interesting in places but a bit too tedious and mundane; filled with gossip and innuendo. While I agree with most things “anti-Trump” and appreciate hearing them said , I nonetheless found this presentation Long on opinion and speculation and short on facts and analysis. So much more could have been said or pointed out about the myriad characters in the Trump drama. However, this story, like so many others of this genre is entertaining and reinforces the pall of darkness hanging over this imbecile who unfortunately was our 45th president!

Historia
Eddie Chapman was a charming criminal, a con man, and a philanderer. He was also one of the most remarkable double agents Britain has ever produced. Inside the traitor was a man of loyalty; inside the villain was a hero. The problem for Chapman, his spymasters, and his lovers was to know where one persona ended and the other began.

Amazing Story Well Told
Revisado: 06-24-22
Fascinating, fun and thrilling. Hard to believe Eddie Chapman was so accomplished - his story literally allows us to follow and see his character grow into and become a professional spy with all the spy-craft tools and gadgets of a real James Bond. This is an incredible and well written story by Ben McIntyre - the attention to detail is breathtaking. Of course, it would be hard to come away with this impression we’re it not for the superb narration of the story - job well done! As a result, I’ve bought the book and obtained the movie! There are also some documentaries available too. Can’t wait to explore some more!

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling master of international intrigue takes readers into the bleeding-edge world of technological espionage in a propulsive thriller that feels chillingly real. Former chief of the British Secret Intelligence Service Adrian Weston is awoken in the middle of the night by a phone call from the prime minister. Her news is shocking: The Pentagon, the NSA, and the CIA have been hacked simultaneously, their seemingly impenetrable firewalls breached by an unknown enemy known only as "The Fox".

Interesting but long winded & meandering story
Revisado: 06-13-22
At times, very interesting but long winded in many places. The story seems to meander from its original themes and digresses into several side shows. While the narrative continuously builds up suspense there does not seem to be a satisfying conclusion. In my mind, the story just suddenly ends and leaves one guessing as to the meaning of its rather nebulous conclusion. After hours of listening, I wish there was a more satisfying conclusion! Now, I’ll probably read the book!

Outstanding Production!
Revisado: 06-06-22
Very meticulous and well nuanced despite the slow and tedious opening to the novel. In the beginning there was a lot of detail that seemed very tedious about the history of French assassinations. However, for the patient, this provided a good background for the story. Once the action commenced, the story became a real nailbiter and guessing game trying to figure out what the jackal was up to and going to do next. This was Masterfull storytelling at his best and the suspense kept building bit by bit until the very end climax. The narrator was excellent and seemed to get better as the story moved on and unfolded especially after the first few chapters. For those who enjoy spy stories, mysteries or thrillers this is a “cat’s meow - albeit a killer cat!

Bulls Eye on multiple levels!
Revisado: 05-28-22
Written and delightful audio broadcast. Full of suspense, excitement, curiosity. Only shortcomings is that the story had to have an end. I would be much thrilled and delighted were there somehow a second volume. I must admit, I was very surprised at how well written the story was by Ken Follet. Is the first one of his novels that I have taken the time to read or listen to and it was well worth the time and effort.
