Having to wait for these is the hardest part of my week!
Revisado: 04-26-23
Do you enjoy comedians? Do you like true crime? What if I could tell you you could have both AND detailed story telling too.
This is unlike other true crime podcasts, and I’ve listened to just about all of them.
James and Jimmie obviously spend hours researching and putting together each episode. I LOVE the longer episodes that come out on Wednesday but the “express” which isn’t really very short ( an hour and a half versus 2+ hours) is just a compressed version of a true crime story. Basically the “average” length of all other true crime podcasts.
And I know what you’re thinking; what do they talk about for 2.5 hours?? Anything and everything, the killer’s background, the statistics surrounding the town, family relationships and my favorite, the “real estate report”, if you want to stake a claim in the neighborhood where these murders occurred. I promise you that if you listen to 3 episodes you’ll become addicted. And if you still can’t get enough check out their bimonthly Patreon. Those are some of my favorite because the guys are no hold barred, in the best way.
Do yourself a favor and get some STM in your life, the only thing you’ll regret is bingeing them like I did and having to wait for new episodes!

I feel like guest appearances should be a Patreon thing. I’m fine with fewer episodes without guest appearances. I appreciate the challenge it must be to make constant content, but I feel like special episodes should be special. I love you ladies and just want more of you and less of everyone else.

I really hope for Justice for Darlene. It seems like the police aren’t very interested in the truth. I don’t have a prime suspect in my mind. I think any of the men mentioned could have been responsible. Test the rape kit!

Raven and Mandy tell you about the case of Melissa Witt from Fort Smith, Arkansas on the anniversary of her disappearance on December 1st, 1994 with the help of LaDonna Humphrey - Author of "The Girl I Never Knew" & "Strangled" and Alecia Lockhart (co-author of "Strangled") from The Deep Dark Secrets Podcast. We also discuss the death fetish community and how far the two authors have gone into their online lair. We understand the controversy surrounding LaDonna Humphrey, but feel the public should be able to hear our conversation with her, regardless, for transparency purposes. We also still...

Not a description of the case, more of a discussion pod
Revisado: 01-11-23
If you are looking for a case description or “story” and going into detail, this podcast will be disappointing. If you’re used to “dateline” style murder podcasts, this isn’t it. This is a discussion about the people who are looking at the case. I had to stop listening after about 35 minutes because it wasn’t very fulfilling for me. I’ll have to research the case on my own to get more details I guess.

Historia
How do we overcome polarization in American society? How do we advocate for justice when one side won't listen to the other and cycles of outrage escalate? These questions have been pressing for years, but the emergence of a vocal, virulent Christian nationalism has made it even more urgent that we find a way forward. Pamela Cooper-White uncovers the troubling extent of Christian nationalism, explores its deep psychological roots, and discusses ways in which advocates for justice can safely and effectively attempt to talk across the deep divides in our society.

Revisado: 01-08-23
This book reads like a persuasive essay. I think I’d prefer more history and background on the rise of Christian nationalism and how it has transformed the PEOPLE involved.
This talked more about the theories and the subject in a generalized way. Pretty dry. I guess I’ll have to do more research to find what I’m looking for.

We could tell you about our show, but in the words of LeVar Burton, "don't take our word for it!" Here is an actual listener's description of the show: "Think Cher Horowitz meets Dolly Parton... create a love child. Then THAT person meets Bill Kurtis.... and two random girls are the product of that.... that's Tyrella and Tori (sisters and hosts). Smart, weird, pretty, blonde, hilarious, southern, and just really okay with being themselves.... even when it is weird. It made me realize [they] became their role models without even meaning to." Give it a try if you like ANY of those people and/or ...

Meh…
Revisado: 09-07-22
I was recommended this podcast in a fan group for Morbid. One thing I love about Morbid and another female duo true crime podcast, Crime Junkie is that they have a healthy skepticism of police investigations. I couldn’t get through one episode of this podcast without feeling like to these girls, the police can do no wrong. It’s nothing personal, I’m sure they’ve gotten better, but acting as if police have the hardest job in solving these crimes is irritating. They’re paid 6X more than most teachers and deal with half the bullshit. Sometimes they screw up. I think skepticism of police goes hand in hand with being a true crime junkie. They don’t always do their best work. Maybe I’ll give a listen to more recent episodes to update this review in the future.

Spoilers alert… one little bug derails the narrative
Revisado: 07-31-22
The story was gripping, the performance pristine. However, if an author is going to make a particular bug the final sentence of their novel, please keep it consistent.
Lena’s belly button ring is described as a “dragon fly” in the encounter first described. But as the last scene of the book states, the big is in fact a “fire fly”. I’m not a bug expert, but I’m pretty sure everyone knows that dragonflies don’t glow, so for a good amount of time that initial encounter bothered me.
Also, I wish the encounters with Chloe’s mother were a bit more thoughtful. I know her purpose in the narrative was to create the realization in Chloe that is was her brother not her fiancé that was the killer, but I would have loved if the final scene was Chloe going back to her mother rather than the bug thing. I think the lack of that closure with the intensity of the family narrative left me lacking. Otherwise I really appreciated this novel.

If you enjoy romantic thrillers this one delivers.
Revisado: 07-09-22
I’m a big fan of Ruth Ware, Lisa Jewell and other psych thriller writers. This popped up on my suggestions so I gave it a shot.
As far as writing goes, it’s okay. The character development is great with varity but the other characters seemed flat. I guess it’s hard to round out characters when every other scene is a sex scene.
Overall if you’re a fan of romance, this will probably be more enjoyable. But I crave the twists and turns of round diverse characters provided by other writers.
