Historia
It is 1995, and Anvar Faris is a restless, rebellious, and sharp-tongued boy doing his best to grow up in Karachi, Pakistan. As fundamentalism takes root within the social order and the zealots next door attempt to make Islam great again, his family decides, not quite unanimously, to start life over in California. Ironically, Anvar's deeply devout mother and his model-Muslim brother adjust easily to life in America, while his fun-loving father can't find anyone he relates to. For his part, Anvar fully commits to being a bad Muslim.

Masood creates real characters that you can’t help but care for and root for. This is one of my favorite books of the past year.

Deserves more than 5 stars
Revisado: 12-30-20
I am a 35 year old male, and this young novel of the film was just as magical as the movie if not more. Phylicia Rashad’s narration wraps you in the warmest hug. I will listen to this every year.

Historia
Benson and Mike are two young guys who live together in Houston. Mike is a Japanese-American chef at a Mexican restaurant and Benson's a Black day-care teacher, and they've been together for a few years - good years - but now they're not sure why they're still a couple. There's the sex, sure, and the meals Mike cooks for Benson, and, well, they love each other. But when Mike finds out his estranged father is dying in Osaka just as his acerbic Japanese mother, Mitsuko, arrives in Texas for a visit, Mike picks up and flies across the world to say good-bye.

I just couldn’t connect.
Revisado: 11-15-20
Did I hate this? No. I was interested in the story the whole time, but the characters are just so flat. Bryan Washington did his work a disservice because he sooooo painfully monotone on top of it. I am a queer man myself and I am in an interracial relationship so I thought I may be able to relate, but not very much. The constant f bombs were weird. It just didn’t seem real. If it was a characteristic of one person maybe, but from every main character. It just was awkward. I was mostly interested in both Tan and Omar rather than any of the other characters.

GOOD, but.....
Revisado: 07-18-20
I enjoyed this story but as an educator for many years, it was just not believable how Edward, a 12 year old boy acted and spoke.
I still enjoyed the story and I enjoyed the regular narration, but I found the character voices used were so annoying. Every woman sounded like a typical caricature of an airhead.
This is not to say there are not things redeemable because I still did enjoy the story. I just had a lot of mixed feelings.

I love love love this story so much, and I think Kate Winslet May be my favorite narrator of all time.
It was perfect in every way.
Just a little over 4 hours time for this 35 year old to feel like a child again, for just a bit. <3

Historia
Frank W. Abagnale was one of the most daring con men, forgers, imposters, and escape artists in history. In his brief but notorious criminal career, Abagnale donned a pilot's uniform and copiloted a Pan Am jet, masqueraded as the supervising resident of a hospital, practiced law without a license, passed himself off as a college sociology professor, and cashed over $2.5 million in forged checks, all before he was 21. His story is now a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

Movie and musical are better
Revisado: 06-06-20
The narrator can not pronounce “Nevada” correctly and his voice was kind of grating.
The book just kind of randomly ends, which is disappointing. I’m glad I also have the printed copy, which includes an afterword and interview.
