Historia
For 40 years, Colony 3245.12 has been Ofelia’s home. On this planet far away in space and time from the world of her youth, she has lived and loved, weathered the death of her husband, raised her one surviving child, lovingly tended her garden, and grown placidly old. And it is here that she fully expects to finish out her days - until the shifting corporate fortunes of the Sims Bancorp Company dictates that Colony 3245.12 is to be disbanded, its residents shipped off, deep in cryo-sleep, to somewhere new and strange and not of their choosing.

A delight for an old Sci-Fi fan
Revisado: 09-29-23
I am just getting old and while I am male, I could still empathize with Ophelia. Her internal battles and joys I can relate well to.
A different and excellent first contact story gives me hope for humans and the future

Historia
You know the future that people in the 1950s imagined we'd have? Well, it happened. In Tom Barren's 2016, humanity thrives in a techno-utopian paradise of flying cars, moving sidewalks, and moon bases, where avocados never go bad and punk rock never existed...because it wasn't necessary. Except Tom just can't seem to find his place in this dazzling, idealistic world, and that's before his life gets turned upside down.

For science fiction this was only so-so.
Revisado: 11-04-17
There were two features that detracted:1 the level of detail and repetition were tiresome, very! 2 the character of Colin was annoying even irritating, really!
The premise was interesting and if I ever wanted to know what the Black Plague was like this sure conveyed it.
Helpful editing would easily reduced this book by half or more without losing any of it’s good qualities. Just my opinion

As someone else stated, this would be more appropriate for YA
Revisado: 04-13-17
First off the narrator had this odd, awkward speech pattern that made listening to the story difficult and frustrating. He did surprisingly better at speaking in character.
The writing was tedious and sophomoric. As a previous reviewer said, the women characters had little depth, they seemed to just be descriptive "arm candy" for the male protagonists.
I had liked this author's coyote books, so this was a disappointment.

Historia
The story line tells the origins of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood and its breeding program, the human-computer Mentats, and the Navigators (the Spacing Guild), as well as a crucial battle for the future of the human race, in which reason faces off against fanaticism. These events have far-reaching consequences that will set the stage for Dune, millennia later.

After a long and glorious space opera we now hear a mundane Soap Opera!
Revisado: 09-23-16
I have loved the stories that Frank Herbert's son, Brian, has written. The stories of the different families gave depth to the original Dune sagas. Those of the different schools, Mentat, Sisterhood, Swordmasters and others fleshed out this rich universe! The stories of the God of Dune gave insight to a future that would be a natural outcome of the original series.
However, enough is enough; the repetitious embroidery of the characters in this book was tedious, even annoying! It was my impression that the middle half of this volume was written to fill pages rather than to further the storyline. Only the last portion of the book did events move along, maintaining my interest. That part was finally reminiscent of Brian 's prior work. I was back living in the universe of Dune!
I can see the set up for the next couple of installments that I am sure are coming. I would caution the authors to write primarily to fill up pages; that would not be worthy of them or this science fantasy.
That is just my opinion.

Historia
A teenage girl awakens to find herself trapped in a coffin. She has no idea who she is, where she is, or how she got there. Fighting her way free brings little relief - she discovers only a room lined with caskets and a handful of equally mystified survivors. Beyond their room lies a corridor filled with bones and dust but no people and no answers. She knows only one thing about herself - her name, M. Savage, which was engraved on the foot of her coffin. She finds herself in charge. She is not the biggest among them or the boldest, but for some reason the others trust her.

Extreme Scott Sigler
Revisado: 07-29-15
While I enjoyed Scott's early work, his terror fantasies have reached their logical conclusion. Here is a story that places us in a world we do not understand. We have no memory and for the entire book we suffer under an adrenaline fight or flight panic. Too much, Scott!
The reader of this audio book furthers the sense of fear and panic with her near shouting reading of the dialogue.
I finished listening to the book because I wanted to see how this innovative concept would play out. I was disappointed that the fear and fright overshadowed the story right to the end.
