Historia
This my re-telling of the story of England. I aim to be honest, and rigorous - but always loving of my country's history. It is a regular, chronological podcast, starting from the end of Roman Britain. There are as many of the great events I can squeeze in, of course, but I also try to keep an eye on how people lived, their language, what was important to them, the forces that shaped their lives and destinies, that sort of thing. To listen free of adverts, support the podcast, access a library of 150+ hours of shedcasts of me warbling on, and get new shedcasts every month, why not become a ...

Historia
Henry V reigned over England for only nine years and four months and died at the age of just thirty-five, but he looms over the landscape of the late Middle Ages and beyond. The victor of Agincourt, he is remembered as the acme of kingship, a model to be closely imitated by his successors. William Shakespeare deployed Henry V as a study in youthful folly redirected to sober statesmanship. For one modern medievalist, Henry was, quite simply, “the greatest man who ever ruled England.”

I thoroughly enjoy this series. I wasn't expecting to but took a chance and I'm really glad I did. No military battles but lots of stuff that brings that period to life. As for the narration, Simon Vance is the best! Well if not the best, one of them. I am on book 5 of the series and plan on reading them all.

I thoroughly enjoy listening to Cornwell's stories. A great read yes...but listening to his work and the performers he uses are always very entertaining. A well researched work. Nobody captures that period like Cornwell. The Harlequin is excellent!

Historia
At the time of the French Revolution, one of Britain's most skillful naval officers, Charles Saunders Hayden, is a young lieutenant, the son of an English father and a French mother. His abilities and his loyalty to the king of England are beyond dispute, yet his career seems doomed by his "mixed" heritage and lack of political connections. Consequently, Hayden is assigned to an aging frigate, the Themis, under the command of Captain Josiah Hart, a man known as "Faint Hart" throughout the service.

Revisado: 03-07-21
around the end of the 18th century then you'll love UNDER ENEMY COLORS!! An honorable protagonist... A repugnant antagonist... Throw in all the descriptions of Naval warfare of that period and a flawless performance by the amazing Simon Vance and you have a first rate audio book. I loved it, and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Historia
Here is one of the best historical novels ever written. Lame, stammering Claudius, once a major embarrassment to the imperial family and now emperor of Rome, writes an eyewitness account of the reign of the first four Caesars: the noble Augustus and his cunning wife, Livia; the reptilian Tiberius; the monstrous Caligula; and finally old Claudius himself. Filled with poisonings, betrayal, and shocking excesses, I Claudius is history that rivals the most exciting contemporary fiction.

It is 1781, and the British-held American port of Yorktown on the Chesapeake Bay is under siege. Aboard His Majesty's swift flagship DESPERATE, midshipman Alan Lewrie quickly sets his gunners to their lethal work, firing rapid broadsides of 24 pound shot at the enemy vessels.
