Historia
Today, most of us communicate from behind electronic screens, and studies show that Americans feel less connected and more divided than ever before. The blame for some of this disconnect can be attributed to our political landscape, but the erosion of our conversational skills as a society lies with us as individuals. And the only way forward, says Headlee, is to start talking to each other. In We Need to Talk, she outlines the strategies that have made her a better conversationalist - and offers simple tools that can improve anyone's communication.

Historia
When life isn't fair, we want explanations. Jerry Jones reaches back into Genesis and draws helpful insights from the story of a woman who was cheated by life. Leah didn't live a "happily-ever-after" life. And for a long time she struggled with deep family disappointment. This book reveals how she got beyond being cheated and suggests that, like Leah, we can move beyond life's often-unfair twists.

A great telling of an excellent story.
Revisado: 12-03-20
I love how the author takes a Biblical story and brings it into view of the reader in a way that brings it to life. The great telling of the story of Leah and her struggle to be taken seriously. This was a great connecting of the true to life application and the biblical narrative to every believer. A must read!

Historia
John Newton, Charles Simeon, and William Wilberforce suffered lifelong opposition and endured for the causes of gospel truth, missionary zeal, and political justice. They found, in solid doctrine and humble joy, the tough roots for habitual tenderness in response to their adversaries - without doctrinal or moral flinching. They are examples of remarkable grace. In the third book of the Swans Are Not Silent series, best-selling author John Piper looks at the lives of these three great men and how they not only endured great opposition but did so with joy and without bitterness.

Revisado: 12-03-20
This was a great message from John Piper on the need to endure and the practical applications of how to endure.
This is the type of teaching that we need in this time that we are currently living in. A voice for living through the valleys and the difficult times that we will undoubtedly live through.

Historia
Thomas Watson was one of the most famous Puritan preachers in history, and his 17th-century writings are still read across the world today. A highly influential example of Puritan writing, The Great Gain of Godliness is Watson's study of Malachi 3:16-18. British Baptist preacher Charles Spurgeon bemoaned the fact that he couldn't find a copy of The Great Gain of Godliness.

A Puritan Movement Message!
Revisado: 12-03-20
The Puritan movement is captured in this classic. There are many things to take away from this book that helps us to see into the mindset of the early church during the 1800's directly after the reformation period of time during church history. This is a classic call to return to prayer and fasting that best equipped the rebirth of the first century church in Europe and in America as well.

Too much self promotion!
Revisado: 12-02-20
The author does a good job of explaining the irrational fears that people have. The examples are good the first time that you hear them. That is the positive of the book. From there it gets negative for me; the author reuses several stories and bible verses to explain things. The author also uses self promotion all throughout the book to describe how well he does and the stories of how well this system works. Yet many of the stories contained seem unfeasible and unauthentic. I would rather find a clearer explanation of fighting fear then promoting another book that would help to contend with your problem that is contained in their personal inventory of books that have been written. Many of the group questions are asked more then once and also ask similar questions just rephrased.
If you are looking for another self help book and do not mind repetition to solve your issues with fear then this book would be the book for you! However if you are looking for substance then keep looking.

Historia
Throughout his ministry, Bounds rose early every morning to pray for three hours. Out of this deep prayer experience, he could say, "Without prayer, the Christian life, robbed of its sweetness and beauty, becomes cold and formal, and dead; but in the secret place where God talks with His own, the Christian life grows into such a testimony of Divine power that all men will feel its influence and be touched by the warmth of its love...That, surely is the purpose of all real prayer and the end of all true service."

Prayer is the foundation of our faith!
Revisado: 11-17-20
Although I am in complete agreeance with Minister Bounds that prayer is in fact a crucial part of our faith I would have liked less repeating in the context. This title is a strong attempt to urge the practice of prayer. The author uses multiple stories multiple times in his telling of the necessity of prayer. Content is not well balanced but has strong potential to convict someone to the life of intercessory prayer which is a dying from of prayer in the Western culture of the Church.

Revisado: 08-31-20
C.S. Lewis is a product of his time and takes liberties with this title. The idea of pain being the propellant to spiritual depth is not unique to the authors writing, The strength in the title is that the author openly admits that there is flaws in the theology of his point and that there are better examples to suffering being the accelerator to a deeper relationship with the God of Creation,

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.
