Historia
London, July 1889. Eight months have passed since the horrific murder of Mary Jane Kelly. The residents of Whitechapel have begun breathing easy again - daring to leave windows open and walk about at twilight. But when old Alice McKenzie is found dead, throat slashed from ear to ear, the whispers begin once more: Jack the Ripper is back. Constance Piper, a flower seller with a psychic gift, was a friend to both women. With the supernatural help of her late mentor and her more grounded ally, police detective Thaddeus Hawkins, she uncovers links between the murders and a Fenian gang.

Female William Shatner
Revisado: 05-18-22
The woman who does the voice of Constance is like listening to the British female William Shatner. Her upward lilt at the end of every sentence is distracting, and detracts heavily from the story. The other reader did a very good job. The story was probably as good as the others in this series, but I cannot be sure, because I was so busy being annoyed with the presentation.

Not at all Blue friendly
Revisado: 04-29-21
I have given these guys 5 episodes. They take great care with the victims and their families. The stories are intriguing and would be fun to listen to. But, in 5 episodes I have heard two different ones where law enforcement was referred to in a derogatory manner. It happens, police make mistakes, they are human, but to imply that we are all fat, lazy and incompetent is completely unnecessary. I truly wanted to like this podcast, what a shame.

Historia
When Caylee Anthony was reported missing in Orlando, Florida, in July 2008, the public spent the next three years following the investigation and the eventual trial of her mother, Casey Anthony. On July 5, 2011, the case that captured headlines worldwide exploded when, against all odds, defense attorney Jose Baez delivered one of the biggest legal upsets in American history: a not-guilty verdict.

The reason lawyers have a bad rep
Revisado: 02-19-21
I don't believe for a second that Casey Anthony didn't kill her daughter, either by accident or design. That being said, I bought both the book by Ashton, and this one. I watched the entire trial, and have researched this case at length. Mr. Baez couldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it. He is the proverbial slimy defense attorney. He was Casey's attorney, though. He never claimed to care about Caylee. His responsibility was to his client. He wasn't a good attorney, constantly having to be reminded how the whole process worked, and trying to slide in things he wasn't supposed to when folks weren't watching. He didn't present a cohesive case. The defense was all over the place, if you doubt that, watch the closing statement. What happened was ultimately the perfect storm, from jury selection issues and integrity, to trial by media, and a lack of concrete evidence. Add in the missteps with the evidence they did have, and contamination issues, and the jury ultimately did what they had to do. It is a crying shame that Caylee's killer will never see justice for what she did. My opinion of Mr. Baez, and his book, is this, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh**." He's a creep. But hey, all guilty people need someone with no conscience to defend them.

Dorothy from Golden Girls Reads...
Revisado: 08-23-20
I am so distracted by the fact that the reader sounds like Dorothy from the Golden Girls. He does a good job bringing the characters to life, but I preferred Scott Brick. I'm sure I'll get used to this one too. Great story as usual though.

Great Book... performance, meh
Revisado: 08-09-20
The reader did a phenomenal job of giving voice and life to all of the characters of this book. That being said, the way he uses an upward inflection at the end of sentences when narrating, leads to a feeling of general boredom with the story. As a listener, this is quite distracting.

Really enjoyed this book!
Revisado: 07-18-20
Was prepared to not like it. Not a big fan of everyone wanting to make all of my favorite male characters female, but I enjoyed this book nonetheless.
