Main character is highly implausible

How is it that someone who lives and works among loving, sophisticated professionals, and who has been so severely traumatized, is never interested in healing and isn’t compelled to pursue effective therapy? The gratuitous cutting was ridiculous. The first 1/3 of the book was great, the rest alternated between annoying and infuriating.

I loved the story told by this excellent piece of journalism. But how does a reader get paid to record an audiobook when he fails to learn how to pronounce local geographical names and the names of local politicians?
I had to stop listening, because I was telling NASSAU out loud every time it was mispron.
