Historia
The Latin term for the female genitalia, pudendum, means “parts for which you should be ashamed”. Until 1651, ovaries were called female testicles. The fallopian tubes are named for a man. Named, claimed, and shamed: Welcome to the story of the female body, as penned by men. Today, a new generation of (mostly) women scientists is finally redrawing the map. With modern tools and fresh perspectives, they’re looking at the organs traditionally bound up in reproduction—the uterus, ovaries, vagina—and seeing within them a new biology of change and resilience.

An enlightening history!
Revisado: 12-29-22
This was a great book documenting the layers of understanding, and lack thereof, around what are traditionally considered female presenting reproductive organs, the ways they work, and how they have formed and are formed by society.

A Charming Insight
Revisado: 09-06-19
I found this book to be incredibly charming. I do not often give 5-star reviews, especially not for romantic books. This book was surprising, quirky, and insightful. I spent half the book laughing out loud (my kids think I’m crazy) and the other half building connections to the characters. The book was able to portray a fairly authentic representation of the lived experiences of many with ASD. Experiencing the story from within Don’s head elicited understanding and empathy, and was at times far more relatable than expected. I strongly recommend this book.

Creepy love story
Revisado: 12-01-18
Aside from everything else in the book, which haunting and suspenseful and very interesting, there is a romance between the main character and a man much older than herself. While age differences generally do not bother me, there was a bit of a creepy factor to the detail that she grew up from childhood with this much older man in her life, and he “loved” her before she had “grown up”. While there was no romance prior to her being an adult, that part of the story detracted from the experience for me. From her side I understand having feelings for an older male figure in your life, though the fact that he is friends with your dad and the father of one of your best friends should perhaps give pause. It was his interest and waiting and passion about having loved her for so long that was creepy.
