Love Sarah Morgan books and this is a great introduction to this particular series.

Lots of love, snark, an over-protective brother and his best friend.

Loyal girlfriends and a brand new business. Paige has her hands full.

Will Jake be the one or the one she could never catch?

Bringing the In Death series characters to life each performance, Susan Erickson is one of the best narrators around. This was no exception.

You always know which character is speaking and Susan has built an impressive voice array for them.

Her ability, with just a slight change of tone, to show the many faces of Eve and Roark especially is amazing. I have laughed at her snark, drooped when she is weary and cried when she broke down.

This book was hard because there were children being targeted. A hard no for all our good guys.

JD Rob/Nora Roberts chose well. The baddie here is all the more frightening because of his age. Too many stories of abuse of young privilege in real life have abounded but this makes the story no less sad.

I have read every book in Nalini’s Psy-Changeling series and love many of them but Heart of Obsidian is the most beautiful, romantic and heart wrenching book of the entire series.

Caleb and Sahara’s story is so beautifully drawn and pulls on strings seeded by this clever writer throughout the first flush of books.

I believe you need to read or listen from the beginning to get the best out of this wonderful series. You will thank me.

I have re-read the book many times and now have enjoyed the audiobook.

This is my favourite of the Rock series.

The Bishop and his Ms Baird are snarky, funny and just wonderful characters. The story goes from pathos to triumph and makes lots of stops in between on the road to the promised HEA.

It is a laugh out loud book - so read it at home.

It goes great with some cheese and a glass of wine if you’re so inclined. Tea and scones? Just as good.

While it took me a little while to hear an American voice instead of a Kiwi one, Justine does a great job and her voices are clearly distinguishable between the characters.

I have loved all but one of the In Death series and that was only because the storyline made me feel physically ill (mission accomplished).

Susan Ericksen is just the best narrator out there for my money. If there are narrator awards she should win one every year.

Slave to Sensation- Nalini Singh

I adore this book, the one that started me on a journey of over 10 years and around 16 books so far.

S2S starts the story of the Psy-Changeling world with Sacha and Lucas’ story. We are introduced to a brand new world built by Nalini Singh (whose world building is first class) where Psy and Changelings are locked into a battle for supremacy and safety.

The Psy world is cold, barren and full of amazing mental powers but not always good.

The Changeling world is gritty and brutal while also being loving and kind and tactile - just what our heroine needs even though she doesn’t know it.

Come along for the ride but be sure to start at the beginning and read in order so you get the full benefit of the story arc. They are all wonderful books and this - along with 4-5 others - I reread or re listen to several times a year. They are incredibly romantic.

Susan Erickson brings Eve & Roarke to life

While I absolutely adore most of the In Death series written by JD Robb I have to say that perhaps much of the reason for that lies with the narrator, Susan Erickson.

I only physically read the very first in the series, opting for an audio book on deciding to re-read - and I was hooked.

If there is an award for best audio book narrator she should win it hands down. The absolute skill she brings to the many different voices is first class.

I will be sad when I finally catch up on the series (very soon) as it has been a joy to listen to the novels narrated with such skill.

Eve and Roarke hit the wall and come out the other side

Being new to the Eve Dallas series this yea, I am enjoying the series a lot. It can feel a bit same/same if I overdose on more than one at a time but I am enjoying all the relationships Eve is building. I do love Roarke and Mavis and Peabody the best of the character who aren't Eve.

I sometimes want to smack Eve for some of her behaviour toward the people who love her but in this novel she really "gets" that she has people. Who she has become is so tied up with what she is - a great cop "standing for the dead" - that this particular story is truly harrowing. It costs her and those around her dearly.

It is a creepy story which I know will have its basis in reality because it seems like we have all been waiting for the scientists to come up with just this scenario.

I won't spoil it by saying any more. I have had two weeks off and am ready to go again.

My enjoyment of the books is, I know, doubled because of the expert work of Susan Erickson. Her narration, voices and pacing are superb.

Really enjoyed this story in the series and Justine Eyre does a wonderful job with the many characters. Nalini Singh is a writer who takes you on a journey and the world building is superb.
