I wish this fanciful monologue about music and guitars were longer. I have tickets to see Elvis and The Impostors next month, and the timely appearance of this Audible book was a delight. It did not disappoint at all. The sound quality of the recording and the timbre of Mr. Costello's voice was superb on my car's speakers. I had no idea this jerky young man would turn into such an eloquent writer and speaker.

Now I have to seriously consider a ukulele!

This was a real treat. Very easy to listen to, and it made my time in the car pass very quickly.

My only issue is how Bob and Sarah Silverman could have talked about political correctness in comedy today without mentioning her infamous Jury Duty bit.

If you are already a Spade fan, you will flat out love this. He gets exceptionally crude toward the end, so don't listen on a family road trip. I listened to all six hours in a row while driving. It made the time fly.

Before you listen, watch the Van Halen "Hot for Teacher" video.

As for the other thing, my guess is Brian Clark.

This book was a good discussion about how other people (your network) can affect you, and vice versa. There were many real world examples and discussions of studies presented in a way that was very easy for a lay person to understand.

I enjoyed the main author's narration. It sounded more conversational because he knew what he was reading. Sometimes a third-party narrator sounds too robotic.

Medical books have never been my thing. I thought this would be about quirky insights to the brain and what happens to patients who have had brain surgery. It's not. It's about the path from medical student to neurosurgeon and what the doctor has to learn and deal with along the way. Multiple brain and spinal surgeries are explained in fascinating detail. Be forewarned (as I was not) that there are some successes but also some very SAD outcomes. It was hard to drive while crying.

Based on the description, this is not a book I would have downloaded. But I have always liked Michael Lewis books, and the other reviews were so good, I took a chance. Glad I did! Many thanks to those who posted their positive reviews.

If you like Lewis, Malcolm Gladwell, Jon Ronson, or Leonard Mlodinow books, you will enjoy this one.

This is the last book in the Bill Hodges trilogy, and the best. It's feels more like a Stephen King book because of creepy stuff that happens, and it brings closure to everything from the first and second books.

Will Patton's narration was terrific! I could comfortably listen to this book on the Audible app at 1.4x the normal speed. That allowed me to fit the entire book into a long auto trip.

Not a Memoir, more Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

I am halfway through the book, but feel the need to warn others. There is no truth presented at all in this "memoir." It's just a long rambling fantasy very (very!) similar to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It's clever, but not laugh out loud funny. I say this as a long-time devoted Norm MacDonald fan, but this is disappointing. Norm's reading of it is good, and listening to him speak anything is enjoyable to some extent, even if the content is not there.

If comedy self-narrated bios were ranked, this is far behind Tina Fey, Martin Short, and David Spade (all great!), but still better than Amy Poehler.

Great historical summary of Churchill and his work

We really enjoyed these 12 lectures about Winston Churchill. They were better for listening than an audible biography would have been. Professor Fears clearly has a favorable opinion of Churchill, but he takes the time to address the critics of Churchill and their arguments.

Like most audio books, you can use the Audible App to listen at 1.5 speed, thus making these 9 hours of lectures a pleasant 6 hour lesson.

If you like Martin Short, you'll LOVE Martin Short

Short's reading of his own book was fantastic. In fact, I could not even imagine trying to read the print book after hearing this great audiobook. Short sings, does his characters, and does really terrific impersonations. Every time he relates a funny story with a celebrity in it, Short impersonates him. Seriously, I didn't even know it was possible to impersonate Christopher Guest.

You can listen to this book at 1.5 speed on the Audible app, and it's very easy to keep up with what's going on.

Warning: I was driving on the Interstate and started crying toward the end of this book. It's not all laughs, but it is all worth hearing.
