Wow….just….wow

There are so many layers in this plot. It was just one thing after another being slowly revealed that kept me glued to the story.

Had me fooled
Revisado: 03-01-23
I don’t normally leave reviews but I was completely compared to leave a review of this book about how predictable it was. I absolutely thought I had it figured out until the first reveal and I was like “ok you got me with that one”, and then the next reveal and again I was like “ok wasn’t expecting that”. By the very end of the book the author had totally flipped everything that I just knew was going to be true. Was this book spectacular? No not at all but it was very easy to follow it kept me interested enough that I wanted to finish it and I like the fact that I misjudged where I thought the story was going.

Really good
Revisado: 04-01-22
This book was a lot better than I expected it to be. This is something I would actually listen to again. The story had just enough humor in it that didn’t make it cheesy. I also wanted to speak on those who made reviews about the racism and homophobia in the book. You have to understand that this story took place during the 80s in the south and the things the author pointed out was very much true. I took no offense in some of the things the author wrote in the book I would have been more offended if the author would not have brought these things up and glossed over them like they didn’t happen….and this is coming from and African American woman with a gay sister who was born and raised in the south during this time.

It’s ok
Revisado: 02-22-22
It was an easy listen and easy to follow but it was very predictable. As soon as the villain is “introduced” you know who it is immediately. I only kept listening because I thought maybe there would be a twist but nope there’s not.

I want to return this book
Revisado: 01-12-22
I never write reviews….I don’t even really read reviews because I like to form my own opinion instead of allowing other reviews to shape my opinions. I really disliked this book. It had so much potential but it left me with a scowl on my face. I don’t like paranormal type of books. If that’s your thing then you may like this book. The characters were so annoying and I really disliked the main character. They asked the same questions over and over and the little nicknames they gave each other got to be utterly annoying. The main character just seemed not to have any common sense whatsoever the only character I did somewhat like was molly. The one good thing I will say is that the author described things in great detail to the point I could imagine it and it actually made my stomach turn.

When I first started this book I didn’t think I was going to like it and actually stopped listening to it. But because it bothers me to not complete something I started back listening to it just to be able to put it in my finished pile. WOW! I’m so glad I gave it a chance!

It’s a mystery that still haunts her bucolic university town and her broken family, especially her sister Haley, whose need for closure has become an obsession. It was......ok
Revisado: 06-08-21
The story kept me hooked but a few chapters in and you could tell who was the person responsible. However, I felt like the booked flowed nicely and it gave just enough details without it being overkilled, but it was just a little too predictable.

Narrator.....Awesome!!
Revisado: 01-28-19
I really enjoyed this book. The suspense and build up was great. I was a little apprehensive that I would not be engaged in the story since this is an older book, but the story totally pulls you in. Also, the narrator was the best! The voices he gave each character was realistic and not overly done. I want to hear more books from this narrator!

Curious and witty, bold but naïve, Stevie ponders questions such as what makes good hair and which skin shade is better in light of "black is beautiful". Great coming of age story
Revisado: 08-06-18
This is a great coming of age story of a young African American girl. The author did a fantastic job with the pacing of the story and telling the story in a way that most African Americans would be able to relate to that grew up during these times. I did not grow up in the era the main character did, but the storytelling was so vivid it is easy to get caught up and imagine what life was life back then.
