Historia
Five hundred years after Luther's now famous 95 Theses appeared, Eric Metaxas, acclaimed biographer of the best-selling Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy and Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery, paints a startling portrait of the wild figure whose adamantine faith cracked the edifice of Western Christendom and dragged medieval Europe into the future.

A Man Who Changed the World
Revisado: 01-02-21
I thoroughly enjoyed this biography. It is not written by a revisionist historian which is an unusual find today. Perhaps in part, because it was written by a Christ follower, which is even rarer among today’s educators. This is a good look at a remarkable and complicated man. Not only was he a major force in the Reformation in the sixteenth century, but has been responsible for how his beliefs have been instrumental for all sorts of change over the last several centuries and now.
The book is skillfully written and performed. This one is a pearl in a vast ocean of literary flotsam.

Historia
Every memoir of the American Civil War provides us with another view of the catastrophe that changed the country forever. But this is one of the clearest and most informative ever put into audio. As a commander in Stonewall Jackson's brigade, John Casler experienced all the horrors and comedy of the American Civil War. His time was not so different from his countrymen on the other side, with the exception of point of view.

The story of a Johnny Reb
Revisado: 09-08-20
It was so nice to read about the Civil War from the perspective of a private’s experience rather than a general’s memoirs. I almost passed on this one because the Audible Summary said it was written by a commander. Far from it! Confederate Private John O Casler’s account of his service really gives you a taste of the day to day soldier’s life. He recalls the hardships and drudgery, but also the mischief and and adventures he and his comrades had. I have have extensively read about the Civil War and I am certainly glad I read this man’ story!

Stephen E. Ambrose draws from hundreds of interviews with US Army veterans and the brave Allied soldiers who fought alongside them to create this exceptional account of the day that shaped the twentieth century. D-Day is above all the epic story of men at the most demanding moment of their existence, when the horrors, complexities and triumphs of life are laid bare and courage and heroism come to the fore.

A Must Read
Revisado: 02-07-20
Steven Ambrose writes compelling books and is one of the foremost historians of our time. Eminently readable and beautifully read by Jesse Boggs. Together they have produced a real winner.
Ambrose looks at D-Day from every aspect -from the top military decision makers, from the experience of all branches of both the Allied and German forces, in all the beaches and venues. He also relates its effect on the people of Normandy and how if affected the home front.
I could go on and on, but you simply must read this for yourself. A+++++

By the time he was 30, Dr. Benjamin Rush had signed the Declaration of Independence, edited Common Sense, toured Europe as Benjamin Franklin’s protégé, and become John Adams’s confidant, and was soon to be appointed Washington’s surgeon general. And as with the greatest Revolutionary minds, Rush was only just beginning his role in 1776 in the American experiment.

An Amazing Read!
Revisado: 11-14-19
Well-researched and thoroughly engaging story of the life of one of the founding fathers-Dr Benjamin Rush. The amazing life of a man who was intimately acquainted with all the principals in the American Revolution. He was also the American pioneer in mental health and in military camp hygiene. His voluminous correspondence adds much to our knowledge of the lives and times of the Revolution. He was responsible for the rapprochement between Adams and Jefferson which produced years of letters between those two until their deaths. This is a “must read” audiobook!

You don’t have to be a history buff to enjoy this one!
Revisado: 08-20-19
Like his other books, Jeff Shaara does not fail to produce another well-written book of American history. A gripping account of the American Revolution. It is gripping tale, which draws you right into the action. I was a little disappointed in Grover Gardner’s reading of this one, and numerous lines were repeated. Overlooking that, I highly recommend this title!

Historia
Goodwin describes the broken friendship between Teddy Roosevelt and his chosen successor, William Howard Taft. With the help of the "muckraking" press, Roosevelt had wielded the Bully Pulpit to challenge and triumph over abusive monopolies, political bosses, and corrupting money brokers. Roosevelt led a revolution that he bequeathed to Taft only to see it compromised as Taft surrendered to money men and big business. The rupture led Roosevelt to run against Taft for president, an ultimately futile race that gave power away to the Democrats.

This narrator is a native-born French speaker. I am sure his French is flawless. However, his English - not so much. He should take a class in English pronunciation. About 25% of his words are unintelligible. I am returning this book and will look for another.

Louie didn’t die soon enough
Revisado: 05-13-19
I adore the writing of Anthony Trollope. So bright and witty. The narration by Nigel Patterson was superb. However, this story was excruciating to listen to. Husband Louis tormented wife Emily for an imagined indiscretion for thirty hours of the book. It only ended with his death. Emily should have offed him in the first part of the story and concentrated on the very interesting secondary characters. Give this book a pass.

Grover Gardner was superb. His characters and accents are amazing. The story was very weak. I found it excruciating to get through. Book One and Book Two were just outstanding, which made the mediocrity of Book Three all the more disappointing.
