Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

I am a fan of Hitchens and always enjoyed his debates. For whatever reason, it took me awhile to get through this book. The content was fine. I suppose my critique is the narration. He ended the book perfectly. "Know your enemy." It is exactly why I sought out this book. All atheists should give this and Sam Harris's End of Faith a go. You'll be glad you did.

Historia
From multiple New York Times best-selling author, neuroscientist, and "new atheist" Sam Harris, Waking Up is for the 30 percent of Americans who follow no religion, but who suspect that Jesus, Buddha, Lao Tzu, Rumi, and the other saints and sages of history could not have all been epileptics, schizophrenics, or frauds.

Spiritual Guidance
Revisado: 11-10-18
Disclaimer: I am a Sam Harris fan. End of Faith was groundbreaking, this is right up there although a shorter version. As religion was the only game in town, Sam with a rational, scientific background attempts to disrupt their modes of dogmatic persuasion to the coin. What's left is a reasonable, coherent attempt at combining rational thought towards spirituality and the unknown interworkings of the human mind. Sam navigates both spaces as only he can that is both refreshing and purposeful. "There is only conscience and its contents," he proclaims. If you hace trouble understanding or acknowledging this, the book may be a struggle as he dives into meditation techniques and his description of psychodelic drugs use. If anything, the book is an excellent window to one of the most influencial minds of our time.

A major audiobook about the future of the world, blending intellectual and natural history and field reporting into a powerful account of the mass extinction unfolding before our eyes. Over the last half a billion years, there have been five mass extinctions, when the diversity of life on Earth suddenly and dramatically contracted. Scientists around the world are currently monitoring the sixth extinction, predicted to be the most devastating extinction event since the asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs.

Masterpiece
Revisado: 11-08-18
A book I simply did not want to end. The commentary on man's involvement in the disruption and ultimate extinction of species both known and unknown serves as a succint reminder we are to blame. Although she offers this ironic hope at various points throughout, its easy to recognize this is all but a fool's hope. Our enduring legacy will be ultimately what we save or salvage but what we lost and will lose makes it all the more depressing. An educational, fascinating, and profound reading as I was immersed as if I were accompanying the author around the world and in the research discussions with the oceans, forests, and habitats serving as backdrops and the outgoing species as its tragic actors. Do me a favor recommended this book to someone. I'll be buying the digital version ASAP.

Rat race
Revisado: 04-11-18
This book came to me at the most opportune time in my life. In my mid-30s, I began to grow tired of the rat race and being financially dependent on my employer. And as a father of two, it was important for my kids not to be trapped by the go to school and get a good job plan. Having money work for me has changed my entire mindset. Concepts in the book are simple in nature but daring to those who are comfortable in 9 to 5. I intend to listen to the other books as this was a good foundation and begin my journey towards financial freedom.

Historia
Here is an impassioned plea for reason in a world divided by faith. This important and timely work delivers a startling analysis of the clash of faith and reason in today's world. Harris offers a vivid historical tour of mankind's willingness to suspend reason in favor of religious beliefs, even when those beliefs are used to justify harmful behavior and sometimes heinous crimes.

Common sense
Revisado: 12-11-17
I will preface by saying I am a fan of Sam Harris. This book only reaffirmed that notion. He is absolutely on point when it comes to religious hypocrisy. I take away from his book this ancient line of thinking has no place in the 21st century. Allowing believers and pious thinkers to hold positions of power while others spread the word through ideas, violence, and suicidal action, it is time to stop enabling. We must use science and common sense to combat the forces of religious dogma in our conversations and in our questions. It is then we can properly place religion amongst the false hoods of so many other beliefs i.e., the Greek gods, Santa Claus, and the Easter Bunny. If not our future just may repeat our past.

Such a fan.
Revisado: 08-02-17
As a fan of Tool, APC, and Puscifer Maynard has always been an enigma. He is the front man who prefers to stay in the back, say little, but sing with controlled fury. As a rock icon, wine condusseour, gun enthusiast, Judo practioner, and now author he keeps pushing the boundaries of his stardom but keeps his personal life shrouded in the background. This biography not only humanized him but offered a small glimpse to what makes him tick. Such a compelling story from Midwest boy to the most interesting man in rock.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.
