Historia
In Broken Harbour, a ghost estate outside Dublin - half-built, half-inhabited, half-abandoned - two children and their father are dead. The mother is on her way to intensive care. Scorcher Kennedy is given the case because he is the Murder squad's star detective. At first he and his rookie partner, Richie, think this is a simple one: Pat Spain was a casualty of the recession, so he killed his children, tried to kill his wife Jenny, and finished off with himself.

Deeply satisfying in every way
Revisado: 01-20-21
I can scarcely believe that I put this aside after a few minutes of the narrators voice. I went back and gave it a second try as I love Tana French, and as I became immersed in the story, I came to love the narrator and the story he told, right to the last minute.

Historia
This audio novella is a stand-alone prequel to the Cormac Reilly series. Another excellent novella
Revisado: 11-18-20
I love this novella as much as the other by McTiernan. The narration is excellent, perfectly Irish and lets the drama of the story speak for itself. I simply cannot wait for another book by this author, and this narrator.

In this prequel to the international best seller The Ruin, set 10 years prior, bright-eyed Carrie Ryan is at the very start of her career. When she has a hunch about an ongoing murder investigation, she knows it could be her only chance to prove herself and truly break into the “boys' club” of Dublin’s police force.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

I like the series, this one not my favorite
Revisado: 01-24-19
I enjoy this author and this series, but the story was not one of the best. The narration was a bit lifeless and extremely muffled and hard to hear. I think the quality of the recording was low.

Chilling, excellent writing.

Although the storytelling of the male narrator is quite flat, it didn't bother me. The female narrator spoke of the past, the male narrator of the present, and the story speaks for itself. A fascinating story in a fascinating country. Chilling, but not sensationalist. Intriguing and compelling to the last moment.
