Historia
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

Interesting story, just don't analyze it too much
Revisado: 01-06-25
Much of the science and probability of the story are really lacking. I just couldn't keep with the story as their were too many holes and gave up. If you turn your brain off you might enjoy it.

Such a disappointment.
Revisado: 12-04-21
I absolutely loved Ready Player One. As a child of the 80's it was super fun and nostalgic. This sequel was a flop, complete cash grab because of the the success of RP1.

I liked that the author did his research but I didn't need every detail. This story was about 10 hours too long and I found that areas that I wanted more story rushed over.

Dark Age sadly was a huge disappointment
Revisado: 09-16-20
I've been a big fan of the Red Rising series but that ended with Dark Age. Not only is the book super bloated at 30+hours, it's a story that goes no where. I found characters that I liked before (Lysander for example) making a 180 degree turn in their personalities and motives and far too many characters were miraculously or inexplicably brought back from the dead. Dozens of new main characters were introduced that I believe we should've already been introduced to in previous books so there was a big feeling of disconnection. I felt like Mr. Brown decided that his books weren't edgy enough and threw in a ton of graphic violence and f-bombs just to give it a R-rating feel. He had a great series before and didn't need to go this route to get more readers. I will not be listening to anymore of his novels.
I also did not like the introduction of James Langton as the voice of Lysander. His style did not fit the character, maybe that's one more reason I feel Lysander changed so much.

Historia
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

So different than I expected
Revisado: 03-14-19
I would not say this book was a page turner that I couldn't put down but it always held my interest. More than this, this book made me think and analyze our world. What is written is as much history, past present future, as it is fiction. This book is philosophy.

Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

What a fun ride! This book has it all!
Revisado: 01-05-19
I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a book so much. Having grown up in the 80's listening to the same music, watching the same movies, playing D&D and classic video games and all of it, I felt like I was returning to my youth. Ready Player One merges action, comedy, suspense, a little romance without missing a beat. I only wish the ride didn't have to end.

Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Super boring, like a high schooler wrote it.
Revisado: 08-01-18
The story has a decent premise/idea, but it doesn't ever get off the ground. The climax to the story falls flat and it's almost as if the author got bored writing and tried to tie up all the loose ends at the last minute and then threw a unsatisfying end to the story.
The narrator is slightly better than pure monotone.

Like watching small ocean waves roll in
Revisado: 10-27-17
Don't waste your credit or 22 hours listening to this book.
This was more of a "how to survive for dummies" book with a fictional story to make it a little more interesting. You couldn't ask for a more favorable (unrealistic) apocalypse scenario for survivors than this. Those that get sick die quickly, calmly, and cleanly. And they lose their appetite for months before hand thus leaving plenty of food to scavenge. There was very little looting and destruction.
Those that remain to "rebuild" society include a surgeon/botanist, veterinarian, electrical engineer, commercial pilot, genius teenager, PHD, pediatric nurse, etc, basically covering all the bases that you'd need and keep in mind 99.9% of the population died.
There is almost no conflict in the story. Anything bad/grizzly that did happen was told past tense. Unlike some of the great dypoptian books (IMO) like "The Stand" or "The Passage" that take you through the "end of the world" and make you feel like you are there, this book gives you a "clif" note version.
I believe that there are a lot of good people in this world but in this book that is 95% of the survivors and I fear that in a EOTHW situation you're going to have plenty of bad/evil people to deal with.
