But having the GN wouldn't be necessary. I loved listening to this while going along in the graphic novel though. Excellent feel of ambiance and background sounds. Top notch production!

Very entertaining, witty and about as "fun" if you can call it that, that these horrific leaders could be. I was very impressed with the way it was put together.

Historia
> The Paradox of Jamestown discusses the circumstances surrounding English colonization of Virginia and the evolution of slavery in that colony. Beginning with an examination of 16th- and 17th-century life in England, the authors explain many of the reasons - social, political, religious, and economic - people chose to leave the Old World for a new life in the Americas. They describe the early interactions between the settlers and the Indians, the difficulties those groups had in establishing cooperative relationships, and the many difficulties the settlers had in adjusting to life in the New World.

Overall, quite good.
Revisado: 08-27-23
One of the few battles between battleships, the story of the Scharnhorst is exciting and deserves it's own story despite often being overshadowed by the Bismarck chase. Winton told the story brilliantly! This book seems to be well researched. The author included backgrounds on the significant people - not too detailed, but interesting. The narrator did a fantastic job!
Overall I'd recommend this to anyone interested in naval history. I wish Audible had more books like this!

Historia
When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic, rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Yet despite Ludlow's tranquility, there's an undercurrent of danger that lingers...like the graveyard in the woods near the Creeds' home, where generations of children have buried their beloved pets.

And he did a fantastic job narrating! This is my introduction to Stephen King. I started here both because the rating was so good and because Mr. King said this is his creepiest book. It didn't disappoint!

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

Overall, quite good.
Revisado: 08-20-22
It was the most in depth book I've read about Lusitania. Overall I really enjoyed it and learned several new things.
Only two things bugged me. The first was that some areas delved too much into off topic narratives. I don't see how the entire romantic adventures of President Wilson had anything to do with the story. We understand that he struggled with certain decisions and that's likely why that extra is included but I felt it wasn't necessary. That's not to say that it was uninteresting or boring, it just didn't seem to fit with this story. I felt the book could have been 9-10 hrs and still told the ship's story in depth.
secondly and somewhat minor, the author says Lusitania was the largest luxury liner afloat in one spot. Olympic, sister to Titanic, was substantially larger.
Everything else is fantastic, hence the 4 stars and 5 overall. The narrator did a good job.

USS Nevada (BB-36) was America's first modern battleship. When its keel was laid in 1912, kings and emperors still ruled much of the world. When it finally slipped beneath the waves in 1948, America was the undisputed global superpower.

It's like an action movie...
Revisado: 03-21-22
I enjoyed the book. I may or may not continue with the series though. It'll probably depend on a sale. There are so many good to fantastic books on Audible... It's not that this book is "bad," it's more that it's just not as good as others.
It's like an action movie. Fun, exciting - even thrilling to a point, but not particularly realistic. As long as you go into it with that mindset it'll be enjoyable just as action movies are often enjoyable. At the same time, check your sense of realism at the door :) It certainly kept me listening but some of the science and mechanics of how things "happen" made me mentally facepalm.

Historia
In February 1959, a group of nine experienced hikers in the Russian Ural Mountains died mysteriously on an elevation known as Dead Mountain. Eerie aspects of the incident—unexplained violent injuries, signs that they cut open and fled the tent without proper clothing or shoes, a strange final photograph taken by one of the hikers, and elevated levels of radiation found on some of their clothes—have led to decades of speculation over what really happened.
