Historia
The many lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, she’s an adjunct professor, toiling away at grading labs and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of landing tenure. By other day, Elsie makes up for her non-existent paycheck by offering her services as a fake girlfriend, tapping into her expertly honed people-pleasing skills to embody whichever version of herself the client needs. Honestly, it’s a pretty sweet gig—until her carefully constructed Elsie-verse comes crashing down.

Historia
There are only two ways a human can cross the gates of Bloodstone Institute: as a familiar to one of the Blueblood vampires who attend the elite school or as a snack. I'm neither, but I have to get in at all costs. My brother made a big mistake, and now I have to fix it by stealing from the most powerful and cruel vampire to ever come to Bloodstone, Lucca Della Morte. If that wasn't almost suicidal, I need to get it done before the spell concealing my human nature wears off.

Revisado: 11-07-24
Omg. So. Bad. It’s like an 8th grader wrote it. Even the smutty parts are glossed over and awkward. There’s only superficial characters, contradicting facts, no attempt to connect parts of the story. Like worse than a Temu version of Twilight. I’m not convinced AI didn’t write this. It was definitely a pay per word I imagine. I realize it’s on kindle unlimited but there are some good stories on here. This, is not one of them. It’s like they just picked random sentences from other fantasy romances.save yourself the trouble. If the author is an eight grader then… it’s not too bad. But watch your language and go play outside. I mean, I downloaded it so you made the money, but so so bad.

Jesus… we get it
Revisado: 06-09-24
Basically it’s the FMC mansplaning everything, References to rape that overexplain it to the point it would just be better to say it. Sera re-stating everything that was said in the past 2 books while trying to martyr herself; ending with chapters and chapters of “we only have a few minutes…” followed by hours of arguing and stalling so that they just make it in time. Love this series… but this book should have been edited down to 20 or so chapters included in the next book. We deserved better.

So disappointing after Bridge Kingdom
Revisado: 05-10-24
Spoilers-ish
Let me save you money and time. A girl is given powers. She doesn’t realize she’s being used. She continues to make selfish/dumb choices for no reason then immediately cry about what happens because of said choices. There are no likeable characters. There are no believable relationships. Everything is predictable. I truly loved the Bridge Kingdom. How can the same author write a FMC that is so easy to detest. :(

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Such disappointment
Revisado: 11-09-23
A. Loved the first book.
B. Not everything has to be read at double speed and like it’s life or death… it’s just annoying
C. I used to really like Violet… and all of a sudden in this book she’s an entitled, self-centered, petulant 15 year old. I was so excited for a slightly older protagonist. She’s so bratty this book.

Omg.. the pure trash this story devolved into… (minor spoilers barely)
Revisado: 12-18-22
And that’s saying a lot considering the beginning. Yes I realize that I’m reading a book rec. off smut-tok. But considering it’s length and opportunity for character growth… to have the last fourth of the book turn into all the characters becoming eighth graders with dialogue worse than CSI: Miami opening lines was diassapointing. I think I understand from the previous hundreds of pages that Knox is “afraid to love and be loved” … I don’t need it spelled out over and over again. And then the lack of continuity… in the beginning of the book Tina is described as a face with wrinkles and leathery skin and fried hair… and then 2 months later we’re supposed to believe they think they look enough alike to switch places!?!? Not to mention the rampant misogyny in this book… and not like the sexy fun kind… the “I think a woman’s place is in the kitchen” kind. It’s decent until the second half, but at that point the characters become one dimensional and the diction begins to resemble a 5th grade essay contest. Maybe worth like a $9.99 kindle buy… definitely not worth an audible credit. Not to mention… the female narrators “male voice” seems like a bad imitation of someone trying to imitate a male voice and failing. No. There’s better out there.

The victims, all young women, were drugged and brutally murdered, their bodies abandoned in desolate marshland. Elaina's hunch-met with disbelief by local police-is that these are only the latest offerings from a serial killer who has been perfecting his art for years, growing bolder and more cunning with each strike.

Good story; Painful narration.
Revisado: 04-21-20
The story was good. Definitely entertaining and kept me interested til the end. The narration was distracting. Half the time it sounded like they got Siri to read the book, the other half was decent. But it switched back and forth from sentence to sentence. It was a bit more “romance novel” than I expected, but I kind of picked it randomly. That may be the point. Overall, worth the purchase.

OMG... Why audible? Why?
Revisado: 12-28-19
OK. Immediately I appreciate that they're trying a new thing here. Which is great. Sometimes it works... and sometimes it doesn't. It so beyond doesn't here. Like, I'd be embarrassed to have my name on this. I know it sounds harsh, but I couldn't help but think this was going to turn into the equivalent of a mockumentary. To begin with... it sounds like it's being read from a piece of paper. At no point do "Melissa's" thoughts come off as natural or in the moment. It's painful how hard it seems she's trying. Not that the "script" is much to work with. I think the reason people appreciate podcasts is that they don't rush the subject matter. It's why the book is always better than the movie. Most stories are better when you can appreciate each major player for who they are. This is like calling a story on the back of a cereal box a novel. The narrator isn't likeable. People just amazingly deciding to talk to her... it's a joke. She's not Oprah. I'm going to bite the bullet and listen to the rest of these just to justify posting this. I know the quality of art is subjective, but sometimes it can be universally agreed upon. I think I'd get too frustrated to finish if I comment on every episode... so I'm only going to review this one and the last one. Fingers crossed a miracle happens and it gets better. If so, I will happily admit that this post was a tad presumptuous and b*tchy. I think I've only ever written like two other reviews but this audiobook really was a waste of time.
