Historia
When young widow Lady Lovelace realized she had been swindled to near-bankruptcy by her curmudgeonly cousin, she knew she would have to marry again for money. These were the very thoughts of Lord Philip, who had nothing between him and destitution but his small army pension. And so these two attractive fortune-hunters somehow found each other and, before long, popped into marriage - and into the bridal chamber - only to discover they were both virtually penniless.

The plot held such promise, but there was no chemistry between the main characters. I liked them when they were not together, but when they were together, they brought out the worst in each other.

Storyline and narrators excellent

+ Unexpected twist …but still within reason.
- A bit tired of books describing (most) male characters as unattractive, over-sexed, vindictive, petty, and criminal while (most) women are attractive, smart, competent, savvy and written to deliver a smack down to the men.

For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Creative storyline, excellent narrator
Revisado: 06-19-24
Characters were well developed and engaging. Touch a fantasy – wish there had been more visual descriptions of the fantastical characters!
Excessive descriptions on non-essentials where brevity would have been better. For example, an in depth description of the computer set up and diet regimen became boring. There seemed to be a lot of filler rather than plot-forward scenes.

Great characters, great murder mystery without excessive gore, a touch of fantasy, and enthralling periods of tension (AKA wanted to fast forward).

Historia
Since there is no hope of my securing an eligible partner, due to sad lack of looks, I am running away.… So wrote the sixth of the famous Armitage sisters. For how could colorless Frederica withstand a Season's scrutiny after the five beauties before her had married so magnificently? Disguised as a chambermaid, Freddie found her way into the household of the fashionable Duke of Pembury. That wild gentleman was soon on to her tricks and found himself escorting the lady to London. Once on the marriage mart, the five sisters preened and primped the youngest until Freddie could not recognize herself!

Fine finish for the sixth ‘sis’
Revisado: 04-19-24
Very formulaic, therefore obviously predictable, but still very fun. All the characters are engaging.
Mrs. Beaton was in a prime period of writing during the 80s, but it’s also obvious she ran out of new storylines for the girls and stumbled her way to finish the series.

Historia
Riverside Close is a picture-perfect community. The six exclusive and attractive houses are tucked far away from the noise and grime of city life, allowing the residents to enjoy beautiful gardens, pleasant birdsong, and tranquility from behind the security of a locked gate. It is the perfect idyll, until the Kentworthy family arrives, with their four giant, gas-guzzling cars, gaggle of shrieking children, and plans for a garish swimming pool in the backyard. Obvious outsiders, the Kentworthys do not belong in Riverside Close, and quickly offend every last one of the neighbors.

Complex and detailed plot, convoluted conclusion, multiple well–drawn characters- I found myself scratching my head, but continued reading.
I enjoyed the book but would not recommend falling asleep while listening. You will be lost if you don’t bookmark your pre-lights out place.

Historia
A visit to the local village fete for a spot of fun and relaxation turns into a nightmare for Agatha Raisin when she discovers the body of the local landowner in the woods with an arrow in his chest and trousers round his ankles. Agatha’s old adversary, Detective Chief Inspector Wilkes, declares the death a tragic accident, believing the victim has been hit by a stray arrow from an archery demonstration. Agatha is convinced of foul play, however, and is shocked when Wilkes eventually agrees … with her as his prime murder suspect.

Agatha has FINALLY been humanized. She’s matured and is more likable, approachable, and realistic.
Revisado: 03-07-24
Agatha is a nice person! She retains self absorption over aging, but is “kinder and gentler“. I find her likable and more sensible. I also appreciate her self-control and clearheaded thinking with Partners. She enjoys her physicality, but also knows that certain men and their plans do not coincide with who she is. (I agree with another reviewer who said she should end up with Charles)
The plot line is both clean and twisty. Bottom line, I enjoyed this book, much more than earlier books,

Historia
Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett faces two different kinds of raging beasts—one animal, one human—in this riveting new novel from #1 New York Times bestseller C. J. Box. A rogue grizzly bear has gone on a rampage—killing, among others, the potential fiancé of Joe’s daughter. At the same time, Dallas Cates, whom Joe helped lock up years ago, is released from prison with a special list tattooed on his skin. He wants revenge on the people who sent him away: the six people he blames for the deaths of his entire family and the loss of his reputation and property.

Two bears, unexpected story twists and a traditional family.
Revisado: 03-07-24
I always enjoy Box’s stories. As always, there is a major plot line, with other secondary stories derived from past books, characters and places (and yes, Judge Hewitt is still grousing around ) I truly appreciate when Box moves the family storyline forward in time but remains true to the characters personalities. The family ages with dignity, relationships are family oriented, and healthy. Joe Pickett remains a solid husband, protective father, and professional -to-a-fault game warden. His wife is a caring mother (no apologies for maternal drives); an intelligent, insightful, strong helpmate. Pickett loves, depends upon, values and respects .
I would like to know what happened to the “traditional family” storyline? (…. scary term nowadays….) Most books show dominant, unteachable, pseudo- dominatrix women who rebel against the authoritarian hierarchy (aka: bosses) or their teams advise. They tend to be contrary to traditional female gifts – compassion, maternal (yes,,I just said ‘maternal’) are at best create inner angst, at worse, totally ignored. The men are often portrayed as stupid, incompetent, and unnecessary.
To conclude – I finished my rant, and read the book

…. and also different from the tv series version. Also, the usual personality traits seems to be exaggerated. Piorot surpasses self importance becoming arrogant while Hastings surpasses cluelessness becoming moronic.
