Preposterous and frustrating
Revisado: 01-11-19
I expected this book to be a treat from the reviews and the first half. But the second half was repetitive and absurd. The protagonist who was supposed to be sympathetic and intelligent was so stupid I had to fast forward over some of the chapters to reduce my exasperation with her and the story. The ending was surprising but not in a gratifying way. More in a "are you kidding me?" way. Shame as there was some potential but needed a major rewrite.

5 stars isn't enough
Revisado: 10-17-18
One of the best books I have ever read. Not surprising to read that the author was a psychologically major. Her insights into all of her character's behavior was dead on. Many twists but that's quite prevalent in the suspense genre. What made this book stand out is that none of the twists were contrived. All made sense. No tension building that could easily be solved with a simple admission by a character. Only complaint is that -- as good an ending as it was -- it had an ending at all. I will miss waking up to this book.

I am fascinated by cults and scientology in particular so bought this book purely based on the topic. I was therefore surprised to realize that it was so interesting as a story on it's own that I recommend it to anyone wanting to listen to a book about a person who has insight into a difficult and at times traumatic life.

Revisado: 09-09-18
Glad some reviewers mentioned the slow beginning and the recommendation to stick with it. After the first couple chapters it was a non stop thriller. Very intelligent. Twists that were believable Characters that were complex. I'll look forward to reading any other books by this author.

Historia
Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can't move. She can't speak. She can't open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn't remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

Outstanding until the confusing ending
Revisado: 03-24-18
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'd recommend it as it was spellbinding for most of the book, However I'd add a warning that the ending was so bewildering and frustrating that it took away much of the pleasure of the book. And reading websites that discussed the ending to get clarity only confirmed that everyone else was confused as well.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Since I was baffled throughout the book by the meaning and credibility of the characters I can't answer that.
What does Stephanie Racine bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She made the book MUCH better.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Hard to answer since sweet moments were never what they appeared to be.
Any additional comments?
The book keeps you intrigued by the fascinating relationships and drama it creates so I couldn't wait to find out what it all meant. I assumed when I didn't understand any of it at the end that I must have tuned out while listening and was ready to re-listen to the last part of the book. Fortunately I read several posts from people who likewise were completely confused by the ending making me realize it wouldn't help to re-listen.

Entertaining but dreadfully implausible
Revisado: 02-07-18
What did you like best about Just Between Us? What did you like least?
Story kept me interested throughout. The author peppered the book with wise comments and psychological insights. But the characters were the stupidest and most self defeating characters I've read in a long time. Which would have been fine if they were supposed to be but they weren't. From the middle of the book to the end the absurdity of all the characters behaviors made me constantly wonder how this book could have gotten such positive ratings.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Just Between Us?
There's nothing that stands out other than it held my interest enough to make a boring walk more distracting.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
All of the performers were excellent and I liked that different performers played the different characters as it was easier to recognize the switch in characters.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Only if it got a heavy editing.

But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

Excellent aspects but unnecessarily drawn out
Revisado: 01-21-18
Would you listen to The Woman in the Window again? Why?
I wouldn't listen again because throughout the book I was frustrated with the writer's wish to build suspense and draw out situation after situation. And it didn't make it more suspenseful for me. Just irritating.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The protagonist was a fascinating character. Her agoraphobia is brought to life in the hands of this writer who understands it completely.
What about Ann Marie Lee’s performance did you like?
Everything. I felt I was listening to all the characters with every nuance of their emotions.

Excellent from beginning to end
Revisado: 07-31-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'd definitely recommend this book. The characters were sympathetic but also realistically flawed. The secret that is the essential part of the story seemed believable and I could relate to the character's fear of "coming clean". This was in sharp contrast to many of the recent books that have characters keeping secrets in an attempt to create conflict and tension.. Those secrets just annoy me. These secrets were psychologically astute and might even help people explore their own issues of secrecy vs honesty.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Because the author drew in depth characters I find it hard to describe who my favorite character was. No good guy -- bad guy.
Have you listened to any of Emma Spurgin-Hussey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not read this narrator before but she did an excellent job.
If you could rename After the Lie, what would you call it?
After the Lie is a fine name but a more descriptive title would be "Before the Lie - During the Lie - and After the Lie"

outstanding
Revisado: 04-22-13
Where does Snow White Must Die rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Best since "girl with the dragon tattoo".
What was one of the most memorable moments of Snow White Must Die?
Entire story was both dramatic and believable -- a combination rarely achieved in mystery novels. Pieces of the puzzle got solved throughout the book which was satisfying while continuing to keep the mystery going. The side stories were so interesting I didn't feel frustrated that there were digressions from the main mystery as I so often do.
What about Robert Fass’s performance did you like?
He made the story come alive without being so full of emotion that the listener felt distracted.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The book was riddled with them.
Any additional comments?
Although the book was long and completely satisfying in it's ending I didn't want it to stop. I look forward to her next book.

Fun and Intelligent read
Revisado: 12-11-11
Where does Shockaholic rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?
Way up there. Author is witty and insightful.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Shockaholic?
Pointing out that what's experienced in childhood (in her case celebrity) becomes normal.
What does Carrie Fisher bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
Since the author reads the book herself it feels like she's telling you HER story. Plus, unlike some authors who read their own books, she's an actress so is able to do it well.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When she spoke about her pain and how drugs were used to numb it.
