Historia
Carlotta Moran, a young single mother with three children, suddenly has her life turned upside down when she begins to be attacked in her bed each night, violated by a spectral rapist. This brutal unseen force makes attempts on her life and terrorizes her children, but the worst part is that no one believes her. Among the skeptics is psychiatrist Dr. Sneidermann, who believes Carlotta is psychotic, a danger to herself and her children who should be committed. But two graduate students in parapsychology have a different theory.

the awful narration
Revisado: 02-15-24
The story is good. I recall seeing the movie years ago. The book goes into a lot more detail which is good.
Let's discuss the HUGE problem with this audiobook.... the narrator. I agree with others comments on the narration. To me, she's either so monotone to the point I'm falling asleep behind the wheel (not good).Or the narrator sounds like she's talking with a big smile on her face. Nothing worse than hearing the brutality of the story described by someone who sounds like she has a big grin on her face. ugh!
It's really quite unnerving after a while.

Great book.... awful audio
Revisado: 01-25-24
The book was very interesting and spooky. There were parts that were repetitive but I appreciate the scientific approach. However, I wish I read the book rather than listen to it. Here's why:
The reader/narrator was so flat in his delivery and boring, it really distracted from the book. Almost monotone in his delivery and his emphasis on the wrong words makes me wish someone else, anyone else, was reading this book!
In the future, I'll be sure to check who the narrator is on my audio books and avoid this guy completely.

Awful. Bad. Boring.
Revisado: 12-06-21
Honestly, I think if Stevie Nicks actually heard this audiobook she may apply for a protective order. This author wrote this book like an obsessed fan to the point I couldn't listen anymore. This author didn't offer as many facts as he did his own obsessive thoughts about Stevie Nicks. I hoped it would get better, but as the book dragged on, the writer continued with few facts and a lot of creepy thoughts about the poor woman. Sheesh! Don't waste your time on this one.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Cannot listen to it. Audio is so terrible.
Revisado: 06-01-21
The audio is so terrible, that I cannot listen to it. I was really looking forward to listening to this book, but the bad audio makes it do distracting that you cannot pay attention to what the author is saying. Sounds like it was recorded on a cell phone. Awful!

Historia
The best-known educator of the 20th century was a scammer in cashmere. "The most famous reading teacher in the world," as television hosts introduced her, Evelyn Wood had little classroom experience, no degrees in reading instruction, and a background that included a collaboration with the Third Reich. Nevertheless, a nation spooked by Sputnik and panicked by paperwork eagerly embraced her promises of a speed-reading revolution.

Very interesting book!

So far so good! I just started listening. The only thing I take issue with so far as a Utahn, the pronunciation of some of the "Utah" words are off. For instance, the mention of Weber State University is pronounced Wee-ber not Web-er. As a graduate of the university, it's annoying. Also, Weber is a 6 yr state university. It's not a religious school anymore. Some of the explanation of the LDS church is laughable. I guess it determines on the writers experience. As a Catholic who grew up in Utah, the comparisons between the LDS Church and the Catholic Church are nothing alike. Overall, the author did a good job describing life in Utah when she grew up in Ogden. I'll keep listening. Let's hope the performer doesn't have to say towns like Tooele, Nephi, Hurricane, or Alta. If she does, I'm 99% sure she'll pronounce it wrong. 😂
