Historia
When a young woman is found brutally murdered in her own apartment with an intricate pattern of lines carved into her face, Copenhagen police detectives Jeppe Korner and Anette Werner are assigned to the case. Soon, they establish a link between the victim, Julie Stender, and her landlady, Esther de Laurenti, who’s a bit too fond of drink and the host of raucous dinner parties with her artist friends. Esther also turns out to be a budding novelist - and when Julie turns up as a murder victim in the unfinished mystery she’s writing, the link between fiction and real life grows.

Historia
Most folks think of Hawaii as a vacation destination. Mob-style executions, drug smuggling, and vicious gang warfare are seldom part of the postcard image. Yet, Hawaii was once home to not only Aloha spirit, but also a ruthless, homegrown mafia underworld. By 1980 - the year Charles Marsland was elected Honolulu's top prosecutor - the honeymoon island paradise was also plagued by violence, corruption, and organized crime. The zeal that Marsland brought to his crusade against the Hawaiian underworld was relentless, self-destructive, and very personal.

Very well done.
Revisado: 05-16-19
I lived in Honolulu when this crime occurred, and knew the victim.
I found the book well-organized and well-written - the author manages to convey the flavor of 1970's-1980's Hawaii concisely and accurately. He also manages to convey the ghastliness and horror of the crime, as well as the long-term consequences of the victim's fathers' efforts for reform.

Before you purchase this, be aware that the major portion of the book is devoted to the suspects' trials, word by word. It's extremely boring.

Historia
For nearly a decade, a novelist wrote gripping, scandalous, and often disturbing fiction using her life as a canvas and herself as the protagonist in a massive web of lies. In this revealing memoir by author Amy D. Brooks, the complex untruths told by the young woman to disguise a tragic mental state declining into drug addiction and alcoholism are deconstructed in shocking honesty.

Don't waste your credit
Revisado: 05-07-17
What would have made My Name Is Amelia, and I'm a Sociopath better?
A good, professional writer.
What was most disappointing about Amy D. Brooks’s story?
It is unbelievably poorly written; some of the metaphors were laughable. In addition, the story was totally disconnected. Did this book have an editor? If so, they didn't do their job.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator spoke as if she were reading a grocery list - no enthusiasm, no joy, no sadness, no nothing.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. I was hoping for something interesting/riveting/educational.
Any additional comments?
Nope.

The second, riveting novel from Bram Stoker Award-winner Jack Ketchum, Hide and Seek is a book about games. Reckless, dangerous games. Games you might even want to play yourself if you're with the right people. But shouldn't. Not ever… In a small Maine town, a group of thrill seeking college kids finds a game of hide and seek in an abandoned house turning into a reality of stark terror.

Find a more believable "bad guy."
What about Wayne June’s performance did you like?
It was very believable.

The Endless Monologue
Revisado: 05-22-15
What disappointed you about Still Missing?
I was looking for a book that was completely absorbing - you know the type, the kind you can't put down.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed - extremely disappointed. The main character was boring in the extreme. I managed to make it through a quarter of the book before giving up.
Has Still Missing turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, not at all. I will just chose another author.
Did Angela Dawe do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes, she did - it's not her fault the protagonist is a crashing bore.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
There may be some redeeming qualities, but I'm not aware of them.
Any additional comments?
Nope.

Don't waste your credit.
Revisado: 03-04-15
What disappointed you about The Last Passenger?
The plot summary sounded really good. However, the book turned out to be really contrived & did not flow well. Also the (graphic) sex scenes were gratuitous & unnecessary - as if the author thought, "Okay, time for another sex scene."
I was looking forward to listening to this book, and was really disappointed.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something well-written. This book was not.
What three words best describe Angela Dawe’s voice?
Clear
Understandable
Professional
What character would you cut from The Last Passenger?
