Historia
From the moment their hugely influential 1978 debut landed, Van Halen set a high bar for the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, creating an entirely new style of post-'60s hard rock and becoming the quintessential rock band of the 1980s. But the high-flying success was fraught with difficulty, as Eddie struggled with alcohol and drug addiction while simultaneously battling David Lee Roth over the musical direction of the band, eventually taking the band in an entirely new direction with Sammy Hagar and scaling new heights, before that iteration of Van Halen disintegrated.

Great Book, Awesome
Revisado: 10-14-22
I enjoyed this book very much.
A couple of years ago I listened to Sammy Hagar’s book, RED.
It was interesting to hear some of the stories from Sammy corroborated here.
I thought the subject matter was interesting and informative.
I grew up with listening to Van Halen but I didn’t know how they achieved what they did over the decades.
Edward is truly a Rock God!
I thought the reader was excellent.
Easy to listen to and follow along.
As a side note, I read reviews of this book before I decided to buy it.
One review I read criticized how the reader would refer to dates such as March 4th as “4 March” etc…
The book was written by a writer from the UK.
Dates are referred to differently in the UK and the reader read was written on the page.
He didn’t change the author’s words to suit a North American audience.
If you happen to read that review, before or after mine, ignore such a petty reference.
The book was terrific and the reader did a great job!

In a searingly candid memoir that he authored himself, Grammy Award-winning pop icon Rick Springfield pulls back the curtain on his image as a bright, shiny, happy performer to share the startling story of his rise and fall and rise in music, film, and television, and his lifelong battle with depression.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 03-14-21
I’ve been a fan of Rick Springfield since, yes, Jessie’s Girl.
I remember vividly. I was 14 years old.
It was late at night and I was in my room watching my 14” black and white TV.
Late, late at night, maybe?
This show I’d never heard of had just come on. It had a really cool opening and I thought I’d stick around to watch.
The show was called Friday Night Videos and the first one they played that night was Jessie’s Girl.
I was dumbstruck.
Like many others, I became a Rick Springfield fan right then and there.
This book obviously tells the story of Jessie’s Girl and most of his other songs but there is so, so much more here!
I’ve always liked this guy as what I imagine having a cool rockstar for a friend would be like.
This book is not disappointing.
As he reads it, you feel you’re having a conversation with an old friend.
He does discuss his “Darkness” often and when his “Darkness” speaks, he has an Australian accent.
Learning about Rick’s history, very much of his history, his family, his careers, his “Darkness” and by God his love of dogs!
I truly felt emotional for this man in some of the stories he told on his personal journey as I felt I could definitely relate.
Not the rockstar/ actor stuff.
Definitely the dogs.
Definitely pain and loss.
There are many layers to Rick Springfield and I’m glad he opened up so we could see them and understand right along with him.
If you’re reading this review.
If you’re a fan of Rick Springfield.
I highly recommend this audio book!

Historia
Kevin Mitnick was the most elusive computer break-in artist in history. He accessed computers and networks at the world’s biggest companies—and however fast the authorities were, Mitnick was faster, sprinting through phone switches, computer systems, and cellular networks. He spent years skipping through cyberspace, always three steps ahead and labeled unstoppable.

Fantastic sort! I didn’t want it to end!
Revisado: 05-01-20
I loved Ghost in the Wires!
Being computer literate but by no means a hacker, I was riveted by this book.
I felt like I knew Kevin Mitnick. I want to know him after this book!
The story kept you engaged, constantly!
I never felt there was a lag in the storytelling.
The reader, Ray Porter did a fantastic job!
Some audiobooks may have an amazing story, or writer but end up being awful because of a bad reader or bad sounding reader.
Ghost in the Wires had neither!
I purchased Kevin Mitnick’s other audiobooks before I even finished this one.
Now, I hope they’re just as good as this!

Solid Story & Reader's Talent Makes A Difference
Revisado: 06-02-18
I listened to MEG years ago. In the early 2000's, on cassette, read by Stephen Lang.
I thought it was terrific. The story and the reader.
I actually own a couple of Megalodon teeth, after first listening to MEG and am very much looking forward to the movie coming out next month.
I recently purchased MEG again and was disappointed that it had been re-recorded by someone other than Lang.
Although, it was still read pretty well.
Back then I had also listened to The Trench.
I couldn't remember how I felt about it, it's been so long so I decided to check out the second book in the MEG series again.
I had read some reviews prior to purchasing it and although I did heed what was previously said, I bought it anyway.
Someone else's review had said the reading was fast.
That is correct. The reading is blazingly fast!
Unfortunately, annoyingly fast.
So fast, that through many of the first several chapters I had to slow down the speed through the Audible app!
Also, some of the accents and voices used I found were just too far fetched.
Hearing those characters over and over again became cringeworthy!
I've been listening to Audio books for almost 20 years.
Some readers just didn't help the story.
Especially if it was a sequel, as in this case being read by someone other than the previous reader.
Characters sounding different when you're used to hearing them in another way.
This was not for the better.
As far as the story goes, It seems the strongest characters from the first book became weak and soft, almost pitiful.
Everyone but the shark.
Supporting characters that were so over the top, it lead to several eye rolling moments.
A villain who would be too ridiculous for a bad James Bond story, you can't wait to somehow meet his end!
Near the end of this book, I actually fast forwarded through some of it as it just seemed to drag on and on towards the climax.
Honestly it's kind of disappointing as Steve Alten did such a great job with MEG that The Trench seems to have no real bite.
