Character build was good. Performances were great. Attempt at building angst was poor-boring and unbelievable need to keep her safe. I quit this book at chapter 50. It needs better editing because I lost interest several chapters prior to. Steamy scenes fall a bit flat between the H/h. Who’s in charge? Her or him? Him or his older brother? Completely unbelievable that this is the head ( or any part of a ) Bratva. Could’ve used the millionaire trope and would have fit much better. The guy is NOT an antihero!
Just needed a lot more editing and feedback to make it a better novel overall.

I was all in with this series until this book. Then it became a flop. The differences for me with this book were that the H/h didn’t click outside of the sex, both seemed very one dimensional, the story came off corny and not another age gap anti hero mafia plot. Then there’s the annoying feral cat that seems to be the third wheel that holds the couple together. I DNF because it couldn’t keep my attention

Extreme angst level here. Deals with sensitive topic of addiction in plot. Lots of typical teenage miscommunication and plot dragging. Not enough from the plot to carry me thru all the lulls and angst of the storyline.

However , great revisits from the OG characters.

The story had many holes, the h was actually more mature than her much older H, who was continually irrational, hotheaded, and impulsive. During his many tantrums, the h would cave and fawn over him. I think this was an attempt at a D/S relationship, but it was one dimensional and corny. There was a ton of scenes that got boring and redundant because it seemed one of the few things keeping them together. Kelly was a good narrator, but the guy sounded creepy. Not for this genre, I’m afraid, but maybe great for other types of fiction that includes villains.
Both were business owners but didn’t seem to work much. The son who catfished the h seemed to be an extra in the plot and not much more which is quite awkward since the H is his dad.
This was a hard pass for me, but I enjoyed many of her other books!

She loved to hate her bosshole. He had no idea she existed. She gets drunk w her techie bestie and busts out a confession email she anonymously sends. He suddenly struggles w having the hots and fires her for breaking company policy. It was difficult to get into their relationship flip. There was no depth to it and therefore made it hard to get behind. I cashed out in chapter 20. The male narrator was good, had a great voice to follow, but just needs to swallow more regularly. Seems weird advice but he often sounded like he was drooling in spit while storytelling. Kind of an icky distraction while listening.

Great trope, H falls head over heels for h. However the resistance from the h was a put off for me. I realize that it may appeal more so to younger generations though.
No cliffhanger but does end kind of abruptly if that makes sense. The male narrator was bad. So much so that it took away from the storyline and intimacy the author was building. He spoke like an announcer the WHOLE TIME! Ughhh. The female narrator was great. It would have been a 5 star read if the male voice was a bit younger sounding and not so weird!

The plot was a weird roller coaster ride. It had an annoying FMC that made an agreement then pitched a fit every step of the way til she just flipped around and was cool with it for no apparent reason. There was a long way up to the pinnacle, then it just ends abruptly.
The narrator had too much hypo to his speech for these types of genres. Also, he sounded like a radio host and I kept thinking he was gonna shout out the call letters to the station thru out the book! Towards the end, he busted out with a Scottish brogue that was part of the plot but just added to the mess of this.
I’m glad this was purchased at a discount, in fact I get why, but even if free I would still be upset I wasted time on this one. Pass this book by, you’ll thank me for it!

While I have read and loved another in this series, this one was very difficult for me to warm up to. The h was a character I loved to hate because she waffled between a young 20 something without ethics and a feminist throughout much of the first book. Personally, it was a distraction to the storyline when she did this, but understand it created angst and for other readers, perhaps a challenging pull with the H. I wish I had not spent my money on the audible and instead got the kindle where I would have not been so disappointed when I DNF. Subtle warning for others who don’t care for characters sleeping their way to the top.
I will read the others in this series though!
