Historia
In her first book, popular runner blogger Amanda Brooks lays out the path to finding greater fulfillment in running for those who consider themselves "middle of the pack runners" - they're not trying to win Boston (or even qualify for Boston); they just want to get strong and stay injury-free so they can continue to enjoy running.

This book is a blueprint for those who may not fit the image of a “traditional” runner—that is, someone who is larger in size, less athletic, out of shape, or dealing with any kind of health issue that slows them down—to feel empowered to lace up their shoes and embrace the body they have right now.

Loved this audio book more than I thought I would
Revisado: 08-07-23
I started listening to this book on a hike today. I've been following Martinus on IG (300lbs and running) for quite some time and even got to experience his energy this June at the Missoula Marathon.
I wish I would have had this book available about 14 years ago when I started running in my 40s. It was fun, entertaining, and informative. I laughed and nodded my head so often. The chafe monster is real and I loved the name. He is a great story teller while providing good information.
I would recommend this book to almost anyone.

Historia
“It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle.” You've probably heard this phrase from any number of people in the wellness space. But as Christy Harrison reveals in her latest book, wellness culture promotes a standard of health that is often both unattainable and deeply harmful. The Wellness Trap delves into the persistent, systemic problems with that industry, offering insight into its troubling pattern of cultural appropriation and its destructive views on mental health, and shedding light on how a growing distrust of conventional medicine has led ordinary people to turn their backs on science.

Biased with minimal new or good information
Revisado: 07-28-23
While the book had some good moments and gave some good information, it was equally biased against healthcare providers that it is apparent the author has a strong dislike for. I can only guess this author has had limited experience with alternative providers outside of comments by others and what she sees on social media. Her ideas of why they may be popular are over generalized and contain a chunk of false information.
Her complaint about supplements has some validity but could also harm the practices of communities that follow ancient treatments of using herbs, etc. as they would also require the same level of testing.
Her ideas for overall change have some good points, but it would take years and won't help anyone right now. She has very simplistic views that lack nuance among different countries, yet alone the US.
Her complaints about the scoring on mental health questionnaire show that she has limited knowledge as to why they are asked.
This book is a basic shotgun approach that covers a smattering of topics that seem to parrot what others have been saying for quite a while.
Nothing new or special about the tech chapter, again the same conversation that has been discussed for a solid decade.
This might be a better read vs. listen to so her tone doesn't override the text. I told my RD the same thing.

I really wanted to like this, but it didn't happen.
This book screamed over privileged sanctimonious bs with equal parts whiny. I understand she put in a lot of work, but it fell into the camp of we all have the same 24 hours nonsense.

Revisado: 09-15-17
I'm a late 40's, never married, no children, and new to the fan girlling world of Jen. I cracked up, laughed, got teary throughout the book. I LOVED the parentheticals in the book. I'm so the more the merrier gal of them.
I can't recommend this book enough. I now need to buy the physical book.
