Too Many Distractions

What did you like best about Memory Man? What did you like least?
This author was recommended to me by a friend as one of the better mystery writers. Because of the poor recording and the dual narrators I couldn't tell if the story was good or bad. The woman only comes in to speak the female parts. The man reads everything else. It was distracting, but not as distracting as the recording. The sound settings kept changing throughout the narration and was annoying and distracting as all get out. I probably won't purchase ANY more recordings from this author because of this last item. I'll be heading to the library for the book to read.

If you could sum up The Black Echo: Harry Bosch Series, Book 1 in three words, what would they be?
I'm new to the Bosch series. A friend recommended them and I have to say this is a great listen. The voice is perfect for the character. The pace is great. I am looking forward to listening to more.

Two thumbs down for dual narrators

What did you love best about Silence Fallen?
I have loved most of the Merci books. Lorelei King has the talent of creating different voices and none of them sound like hers. The male voices are deep, sexy and all very different. Even those characters who have foreign accents have their own individuality. George Newbern does not have this talent. All of his voices sound the same; males, females, it doesn't matter. It's very distracting. If the next book is split like this, I won't purchase the audio book.

What made the experience of listening to Belladonna the most enjoyable?
As always, Anne Bishop creates a world like no other; complex, original and breathtaking.
What other book might you compare Belladonna to and why?
None. Anne Bishop is a writer too unique to be compared to anyone else. Love her!!
What didn’t you like about Maggie Hoffman’s performance?
The voice of the reader is why I would tell people to get the book and read it. The tones didn't fit the story. She would put in a bit of a laugh in her voice when the situation was serious, like it all was a bit of a joke. It was very distracting.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. I couldn't listen to the voice for long and almost stopped listening to it all together.
Any additional comments?
I loved Sebastian and the voice for that story. I wish they had used the same person for both stories. I'm afraid the new book, Bridge of Dreams, will be yet another voice that doesn't work so I will most likely get the book and read it.
