Historia
In 1982, 20-year-old Nina Stibbe moved to London to work as a nanny to two opinionated and lively young boys. In frequent letters home to her sister, Nina described her trials and triumphs: There's a cat nobody likes, suppertime visits from a famous local playwright, a mysteriously unpaid milk bill, and repeated misadventures parking the family car. Dinner table discussions cover the gamut, from the greats of English literature, to swearing in German, to sexually transmitted diseases.

This is laugh out-loud funny
Revisado: 12-30-20
Nina's letters to her sister are sweet and detailed and at times hilarious. The narrator's deadpan reading of some of the kids' dialogue is perfectly pitched and super funny. Great observations and charming story.

I could listen to Jayston read a cereal box!
Revisado: 12-30-20
An elaborate, methodical and tense spy novel, unfolding in great detail and incredible inside knowledge of the workings of the world of the Secret Service. Le Carre is such a master story teller, so brilliant in his depictions and his insights into the moods, gestures and actions of his characters. Jayston is terrific as narrator of this story.

A fascinating premise but disappointing
Revisado: 12-30-20
There was great opportunity to delve deeply into notions of identity, race, home, family. The story was very engaging and thoughtful but thin, I felt, on these profound issues.

Fantastic story and terrific historical novel
Revisado: 12-09-20
Follett has such great characters, really engaging your support or disdain. The narrator had a couple of annoying minor distractions but overall kept an excellent pace and flow. What a great tale.

Fascinating and remarkable book
Revisado: 08-09-17
Would you listen to Beneath a Scarlet Sky again? Why?
likely not. it was long
What was one of the most memorable moments of Beneath a Scarlet Sky?
taking the people across the mountains to safetly
Which scene was your favorite?
when Pimo and carlotto reunited
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I teared up at a couple of points
Any additional comments?
the reader got a little overly melodramatic which was distracting. otherwise a really amazing tale and all the more rewarding to "read" given so much was based on fact
