In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

A 1 star or a 5 star- BOTH
Revisado: 02-06-23
As a work of fiction I’d give this a 5. And Harry’s narration is excellent
However as a memoir - it’s a 1
His story, His words while all of the people he has maligned here cannot defend themselves- mostly his brother William
As a Royalist and lover of Queen Elizabeth II, I hope this young man can find some peace and truly start living the PRIVATE life he claims to want so badly

Historia
With the Beatles, John Lennon surpasses his youthful dreams, achieving a level of superstardom that defies classification. “We were the best bloody band there was,” he says. “There was nobody to touch us.” Nobody except the original nowhere man, Mark David Chapman. Chapman once worshipped his idols from afar - but now harbors grudges against those, like Lennon, whom he feels betrayed him. He’s convinced Lennon has misled fans with his message of hope and peace. And Chapman’s not staying away any longer.

And in the end...
Revisado: 12-20-20
I’ve read literally thousands of pages about Lennon and the life of the Beatles including Albert Goldman’s excellent “the Lives of John Lennon” and Peter Browns “The Love you Make”. I hesitated to buy this as I didn’t think there could be anything new on the topic . I was wrong- the book is outstanding with a new point of view. The British narrator does a superb job in capturing the accents and nuances of the voices of Lennon and McCartney as well as all the other characters he reads. For my generation, we remember where we were on December 8, 1980. Not to be missed by Beatles fans, Lennon fans or fans of history . Can’t wait to see who Patterson takes on next.

Remarkable life performed by Taron Egerton
Revisado: 11-14-19
Elton John’s Story is almost too fantastic to believe. He shares his life story with us that is alternately funny, poignant, sad, extremely personal and enormously uplifting and a must for his fans. The performance by Taron Egerton is remarkable and really a nice touch considering his role in Rocketman.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Tom Hanks gift to audible listeners
Revisado: 10-15-19
Ann Patchett is one of the premier writers of the Family saga - I’ll let you read the synopsis of the book. What she managed to do in The Dutch House is undo all the readers anger and sadness over what happens to Danny and Maeve and bring us to a surprising level of forgiveness. For anyone that has had long standing family drama - this realization that there is always room for forgiveness rings especially true.
But the real magic and gift of this is the performance by Tom Hanks - I now understand what audible narrators mean when they say “performed by”. Mr Hanks performance transcends and brings the material to a whole different level. 9 hours and 53 minutes of discovery, surprise, anger, denial, sadness , forgiveness and acceptance performed for you by the treasure that is Tom Hanks

Historia
Awe and exhilaration—along with heartbreak and mordant wit—abound in Lolita, which tells the story of the aging Humbert Humbert's obsession for the nymphet Dolores Haze. Lolita is also the story of a hypercivilized European colliding with the cheerful barbarism of postwar America.

A masterpiece!?
Revisado: 05-26-19
I found the recommendation for best audio books in 1000 books to read before you die so downloaded Lolita. The prose is absolutely beautiful and now I will download everything that Jeremy Irons performs. His performance is what made this book remotely palatable to me. I just find the material impossible to accept as a “masterpiece” given the disgusting subject matter. In no universe literary or otherwise should a sexual relationship between a child and a middle aged man be condoned, tolerated, or celebrated as this book has been through history
I almost couldn’t get through it - again Jeremy Irons astounding talent is the only reason I could finish

Why does no one edit this author
Revisado: 11-30-17
This will in all probability be my last of the Outlander series. When I saw that the next book is some 500 pages longer than Drums of Autumn - I skied myself about the hubris of the writer. And more importantly why does she not allow herself to be edited. There are hundreds of pages in her books that do nothing to advance story or character. I’m exhausted.

Historia
Diana Gabaldon's fans will be delighted to find Jamie and Claire as spirited and endearing as ever in this fourth installment of this magnificent saga. Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

Sucks the Life from you
Revisado: 03-10-17
This novel attempts to be a sweeping family saga in the style of Richard Russo or Jane Smiley but without the heart, character or humor. Nothing good ever happens to these characters, or if it does - the writing makes it seem like more anguish and despair. There is literally no hope in the story which is more a series of individual short stories about each family member told in each of the very long chapters
I have a rule that once I begin a book, I have to finish it. This one was torturous to finish.
If things are going too well in your life and you feel the need to be depressed - run out and read this. It's sure to bring you down
