Historia
Maddie Baxter West is shaken to the core when she finds out everything she believed about her life was a lie. Her parents had always planned to tell her the truth about her past: that she was adopted as an embryo. But somehow the right moment never happened. Then a total stranger confronts Maddie with the truth and tells her something else that rocks her world - Maddie had a sister she never knew about. Betrayed, angry, and confused, Maddie leaves her new job and fiancé, rejects her family's requests for forgiveness, and moves to Portland to find out who she really is.

Poor performance and writing, with no plot.
Revisado: 02-16-24
This book was written in the same style a 5th grader would write a book. It utilizes the same 5 options to relay conversation and feeling from the characters ("he said, she sighed, he smiled"...) I couldn't finish this book.
The combination of the performance (basically the same emotion and over acting that you get from an infomercial) and the juvenile writing made it impossible to pay attention to the plot.
Not that there is a real plot... this situation that the story makes out to be a huge deal is normal life for a lot of families, especially in 2024. This book is basically a 7th Heaven episode drug out for 8 hours.
And I am spiritual but the amount of God reference and spiritual quips from the characters was overwhelming, unrealistic, and frankly a turn off to the book.

In my perfect world, it would always be winter and never Christmas. I despise the holiday. I hate carols, shopping, and pretending to be a perfect family. I walked away from my family, or rather, they walked away from me. My heart is like ice. See it creeping up the walls. Oh, wait, no, that’s royal icing.

No Plot... none at all.
Revisado: 12-15-23
The book had potential but definitely lost its plot when it starts to get raunchy. The writing is was very bad. It jumped all over the place and it has a horrible ending that makes zero sense. Overall... not worth the listen.

This is a well used plot but the character development was superb and the story was well written. I saw the ending coming from the beginning but I could stop listening. I was invested in the characters.

Phillipa Soo, I love you
Revisado: 11-20-22
This story was wonderful and really explored the emotional side of “finding one’s self” in a way that doesn’t put this out in the “mushy romance” category.
The reader is amazing and really brings out the story in a way that made unable to stop listening. Phillipa Soo is amazing at what she does! Voice like velvet!

Good Character Development, Rushed Ending
Revisado: 08-23-22
I really liked most of the book, but when it started to get interesting and the story was progressing there was only 1 hour left! It was like 90% characters development and foundation and 10% using that information to hurry the story along! So disappointing! Could’ve used more detail and suspense in the ending, so much happened in such a small timeframe!

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. First Title I Returned
Revisado: 04-26-22
This book was so long and terrible. The entire time you are just waiting for SOMETHING to happen. This could've been summarized in two sentences. "Everyone has problems. Don't judge people because you don't know when they have been through."
BORING. Slow. The listening equivalent to watching paint dry.

Historia
When Jenny inherits her estranged grandmother’s cottage in Sherwood Forest, she has nothing to lose - no money, no job, no friends, no family to speak of, and zero self-respect. Things can only get better.... Her grumpy but decidedly handsome new neighbour, Mack, has a habit of bestowing unsolicited good deeds on her. And when Jenny is welcomed into a rather unusual book club, life seems to finally be getting more interesting. Instead of reading, the members pledge to complete individual challenges before Christmas.

I wouldn’t consider this a “Christmas” book. It doesn’t take place during Christmas at all… but the story is pretty good and the characters were developed well.

Finola, a popular LA morning-show host, is famously upbeat until she’s blindsided on live TV by the news that her husband is sleeping with a young pop sensation. While avoiding the tabloids and pretending she’s just fine, she’s crumbling inside. Zennie’s breakup is no big loss. Although the world insists she pair up, she’d rather be surfing. So agreeing to be the surrogate for her best friend is a no-brainer. Ali is used to being overlooked, but when her fiancé sends his disapproving brother to call off the wedding, it’s a new low.

3 Romance Books in One
Revisado: 10-12-21
The characters were good, it was an entertaining story from all three but the performance... it distracted me in the beginning half of the book. the reader was so robotic and didn't convey the right emotion for the scene... that faded half way through the book, though.
