At the beginning of the 20th century, our plucky but nobly poor orphaned heroine goes to live with her rich family members, disregards those pesky societal norms but benefits from her new found privilege. She ambles off like a loose cannon, costing the future love interest his job. She ruins him financially and socially by falsely accusing him of a crime and exposing his "shameful" childhood. But golly gee, she feels so bad about it that everyone just forgives her. She rashly puts herself and others in danger, accuses powerful people of crimes without evidence and we're supposed to believe there is no consequences for her impetuous nature. Of course, she's the only one who can solve these crimes. Realistically, her wealthy family would not put up with the social embarrassment and trouble she brings. I feel like I have seen this plot before many times before and done better. Even the relationships with the side characters are unrealistic. I really wanted to like this, I wanted to root for her, but I can't. I prefer stories where people have to work within the constraints of the society they live in and forging their own way are better. Instead I felt like this was a modern woman cosplaying a certain time period but having no understanding of what living in that time would be like. The performance was well done and the cover art is lovely. Got this for free as part of a promotion. Wouldn't read more of this series.

I like the plots of this series. The English countryside is fascinating and so are the bird facts. I really like the supporting characters. Julia, the main character, acts like an immature hothead, but she does have personal growth as a character, so I'm hopeful that she will grow more in future books. Maybe get some therapy. She also has good relationships with her friends and coworkers and is not in competition with other women, so that's refreshing. The actor's performance is outstanding

This i a hidden gem of a book. An engrossing story with memorable characters, a clever puzzle of a mystery and a smart, wise female lead. I have added all the author's books to my Wish List. Look forward to reading them all

Very clever puzzle, interesting side characters, cinematic scenes.

Very good narrator, maybe have more differentiation between characters' voices.
