Historia
When Special Agent Nikki Hunt is called to the Boundary Waters near Stillwater, Minnesota, it’s not just the cold that shocks her to her core: the body of a young woman has been found frozen beside a remote lake. Nikki is devastated to see the victim is her childhood friend Annmarie, and she recognizes the velvet ribbon tied in her hair as the hallmark of a serial killer who she has been hunting for years.

Just ok
Revisado: 01-29-24
This series tells the story of an FBI agent who is far too involved in being the story instead of investigating the story. Which takes the whole thing out of any realm of believable. The lead character acts more like an FBI agent in a romance novel than one in a police procedural.
And I can’t understand why the production editors didn’t catch it, but this narrator doesn’t know how to pronounce composite. A word which appears frequently towards the middle-end of this story.
If this series were part of the Kindle unlimited program or the Audible included program I’d probably continue it, but IMO it’s not worth a credit per book.

Too long by half
Revisado: 01-08-23
This would have benefited by some serious editing. That, and the sex is more explicit than I would expect in a typical romance novel. Thank heavens for the 30 second forward button.

I Quit listening
Revisado: 04-09-22
It’s nearly impossible to like these characters or to want to have empathy. Even though the subject is one I care deeply about, this feels more like an agenda driven treatise than a compelling story. I quit listening with 13 hours left to go. If it weren’t free I’d be returning it. As it is I’m just deleting it from my library.

Worst narrator Ever!
Revisado: 08-05-20
The story is marginally ok, but the narrator is easily the worst I’ve ever listened to. I finally slogged thru it, but it wasn’t worth listening to Ms Rona for that many hours.

Male voices on narration just awful
Revisado: 05-14-19
This narrator does an adequate job on female voices but her male dialogue is SO bad that it distracts. Every male line is spoken in a low slow soft drawl that is reminiscent of a bedroom voice. And the story itself would benefit from some pretty stringent editing.

Historia
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly.

Deeply disturbing
Revisado: 09-16-18
The protagonist is rather unlikable. She makes so many bad decisions and is so self destructive that you want to shake her.
Meanwhile the town is painted as the last place on earth anyone would want to live.
It’s dark, yet compelling enough to get you to the end. Which I should have seen coming, but didn’t.

Horrible female narrator
Revisado: 08-07-18
The male narrator is fine, but the female employs a weird sliding tone to dramatize her narration, and her narration of male voices is nails on chalkboard bad.
The story is overwrought. Could have used an editor with a great big red pen.

Narrator can't pronounce Oaxaca!
Revisado: 08-03-18
Wouldn't you think that if a town has a featuring part in a narrative - wouldn't you think that the narrator of the audible version of the book might have looked up how to pronounce it? Wouldn't you think that an editor would have caught it? Wouldn't you think that the author would have caught it, and had the narration corrected? Driving me crazy, I might have to stop listening.
For the record - it's Wah ha ka

Reads like an Action Video Game
Revisado: 06-05-18
Admittedly I’m not the demographic this story/series is written for, but I do enjoy a good action story once in awhile. This story is so formulaic it’s not worth the time. The characters are so one-dimensional, the plot device of trusted officials being corrupt and evil is so overdone, I almost couldn’t finish it. Don’t bother.
