Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

An entertaining listen
Revisado: 02-03-25
A much better experience than the version with all the adverts in. Would have been even better if the music had been reduced in volume or removed too. Hope the other shows in the series will be available.

Historia
When an intricate old map is found stuffed into the walls of the bistro in Three Pines, it at first seems no more than a curiosity. But the closer the villagers look, the stranger it becomes. Given to Armand Gamache as a gift the first day of his new job, the map eventually leads him to shattering secrets. To an old friend and older adversary. It leads the former Chief of Homicide for the Sûreté du Québec to places even he is afraid to go. But must. And there he finds four young cadets in the Sûreté academy, and a dead professor. And, with the body, a copy of the old, odd map.

Clears up some loose ends
Revisado: 11-04-16
Where does A Great Reckoning rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The story follows on from some threads in previous books that makes it familiar but has a decent story that for me puts it amongst my favourite Three Pines books
Have you listened to any of Robert Bathurst’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This one feels as though Mr Bathhurst is more confident reading this book. The one following Ralph Cosham's death just felt a bit awkward and I too often felt that things were not said "properly" but this one is fine.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
The story moves along at a reasonable place and kept me interested enough to keep going with it.
Any additional comments?
I'm glad that some of the threads from the previous books have been completed and that gives the chance for a new start in forth coming books. If you like the series this shouldn't disappoint.

The adverts....
Revisado: 11-04-16
What made the experience of listening to The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: 60-Episode Set the most enjoyable?
Liking the Rathbone films it was what you would expect listening to these episodes. These follow a similar structure but that familiarity makes them a fun listen.
Any additional comments?
The only thing that does spoil them is the adverts. Whilst they are initially fun to listen too the soon become repetitive and irritating. It wouldn't have been too hard to edit them out saving about four hours of time.
The recording quality is generally good given how the originals were recorded.

Historia
Christmas is approaching, and in Québec it's a time of dazzling snowfalls, bright lights, and gatherings with friends in front of blazing hearths. But shadows are falling on the usually festive season for Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Most of his best agents have left the Homicide Department, his old friend and lieutenant Jean-Guy Beauvoir hasn't spoken to him in months, and hostile forces are lining up against him. When Gamache receives a message from Myrna Landers that a longtime friend has failed to arrive for Christmas in the village of Three Pines, he welcomes the chance to get away.

A conclusion...
Revisado: 05-07-16
Whilst ongoing themes are interesting they can sometimes reach a point where you wish they are over. In this book things finally come to a head with a few twists. Enjoyed listening.

Three Pines favourite

Possibly my favourite of the series as it avoids all the background conspiracy plot but builds some of the Three Pines residents.

Historia
Happily retired in the village of Three Pines, Armand Gamache, former Chief Inspector of Homicide with the Sûreté du Québec, has found a peace he'd only imagined possible. On warm summer mornings he sits on a bench holding a small book, The Balm in Gilead, in his large hands. "There is a balm in Gilead," his neighbor Clara Morrow reads from the dust jacket, "to make the wounded whole." While Gamache doesn't talk about his wounds and his balm, Clara tells him about hers. Peter, her artist husband, has failed to come home. Failed to show up as promised on the first anniversary of their separation. She wants Gamache's help to find him. Having finally found sanctuary, Gamache feels a near revulsion at the thought of leaving Three Pines. "There’s power enough in Heaven," he finishes the quote as he contemplates the quiet village, "to cure a sin-sick soul." And then he gets up. And joins her.

Not bad but not great either
Revisado: 04-05-16
If you have read the previous books you know the characters and of course Three Pines. I didn't find anything wrong with this book but felt it is a bit of a space filler in the series. Still enjoyed listening and the narration was great as usual.

Scene setting for later books
Revisado: 05-05-14
Would you try another book from Tom Clancy and/or Stephen Hoye?
The follow uo books are much better and being read by Lou Diamond Phillips makes them much more enjoyable but I would avoid anything by Stephen Hoye.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The story really is moving the emphasis of the series from Jack Ryan Sr to his son. I did feel that some of the factual info was wrong or a bit off.
What didn’t you like about Stephen Hoye’s performance?
For an action story the reading was awful. There were vague attempts at different voice for characters but they never seemed to be consistent. Scene changes were ildefined and just merged together. There were a few times when sentences were repeated.
Was The Teeth of the Tiger worth the listening time?
Worth a listen for completeness but I wouldn't listen to it again like I have with other Clamcy books.
