Historia
For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Totally Engrossing!
Revisado: 04-05-24
I was amazed at Lowell's adept storytelling and characterization. And what an amazing attention to detail! This could so easily have been a ho-hum attempt at paranormal spell-slinging. But no, there is an actual storyline involving characters in whom I enthusiastically invested myself! I was glad to see that this is but Book One of a series, and enjoyed it so much I checked to see what else Nathan Lowell has penned. I was surprised to find a list of sci-fi titles, and a little reluctant to take a chance on so different a genre by the same writer. But I did it! I purchased Quarter Share and am as engrossed in this space drama as I was in The Wizard's Butler. It pleases me no end to know that I have many more listening experiences to look forward to.

Once again, Connelly has swept me up in his intricate and completely realistic story. He is one of the few authors who never fail to satisfy!

Historia
Acclaimed historian Heather Cox Richardson traces the shifting ideology of the Republican Party from the antebellum era to the Great Recession. While progressive Republicans like Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower revived Lincoln’s vision and expanded the government, their opponents appealed to Americans’ latent racism and xenophobia to regain political power, linking taxation and regulation to redistribution and socialism. In the modern era, the schism within the Republican Party has grown wider, pulling the GOP ever further from its founding principles.

Richardson’s recounting of the Republican odyssey is astoundingly well-researched, written and narrated. Her work is a gift to all of us.

Historia
In every generation, certain writers are chosen to be protectors of The Legendarium, a metaphysical library that exists at the nexus of the multiverse. Inside this library are doorways that lead to every world ever created in literature. There are forces of evil constantly at work to destroy the library and send the world back into an age of darkness. Now, in a time of growing illiteracy, two heroes are chosen to defend The Legendarium.

Waaay Too Short!
Revisado: 08-30-16
This was my first encounter with Summers' and Bunker's writing, and it left me yearning for more! The absolutely intriguing premise is delightfully developed through the interactions and antics of the characters, with really clever twists in the plot. I came away from this listen smiling, and contemplating just how the literary efforts of every author that ever was or will be eventually share some shelf space in the Legendarium, whether we know it or not!

Historia
Ulysses is regarded by many as the single most important novel of the 20th century. It tells the story of one day in Dublin, June 16th 1904, largely through the eyes of Stephen Dedalus (Joyce's alter ego from Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man) and Leopold Bloom, an advertising salesman. Both begin a normal day, and both set off on a journey around the streets of Dublin, which eventually brings them into contact with one another.

Enthralling audio experience
Revisado: 11-06-12
It's poetry!
For so many years I have had people warn me away from Ulysses, citing its obscurity and density. Phooey! It is lyrical and complex. It may well be that one would get more out of it given a thorough grounding in classical literature, but not quite getting all the allusions and references doesn't diminish the power of Joyce's playful linguistics. The well is deep, so drink deeply.

Historia
It's June in Montreal, and Dr. Temperance Brennan, who has left a shaky marriage back home in North Carolina to take on the challenging assignment of Director of Forensic Anthropology for the province of Quebec, looks forward to a relaxing weekend in beautiful Quebec City. First, though, she must stop at a newly uncovered burial site in the heart of the city. The remains are probably old and only of archeological interest, but Tempe must make sure they're not a case for the police. One look at the decomposed and decapitated corpse, stored neatly in plastic bags, tells her she'll spend the weekend in the crime lab.

Not Quit What I Expected
Revisado: 10-26-12
Don't look for the Temperance Brennan character as portrayed in the television series, 'Bones'. Reichs' original version is not the slick, confident and cerebral character who works with the F.B.I., but a much more vulnerable and uncertain person. Enjoy this recording in it's own right, as I have, and root for Tempe as she works through her doubts, fears and limitations to solve a series of gruesome murders.

Then, as he ponders the case (while on a date with the lovely Kerry), he’s violently struck from behind by a car that seems bent on driving him off the road. Will Nameless survive this attempt on his life and solve the case?
