Historia
Beckett: If you’re reading this, well, you know the last-letter drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there was any chance you could have saved me, you would have. I need one thing from you: get out of the army and get to Telluride. My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart.

The ending broke my heart
Revisado: 01-11-24
This book wasn’t bad but a little predictable and cheesy at parts. The ending was very sad though and literally broke my heart. I listened because I loved the 4th wing books so far from the author however this didn’t even closely compare. But not bad for one of my first romance style novels that was not a fantasy series.

Great book that kept me captivated till the end
Revisado: 02-07-23
This book is for sure more if of thriller than a mystery, there wasn’t any big turns or surprises. However the characters were original and the storyline was new and good. Plus I love the narrator Kathleen Early

Loved this book
Revisado: 01-06-23
So for most of the book I was totally outraged on what was happening to the main character and how no one had the appropriate amount of empathy for her. However the end made it all great. I don’t want to give any spoilers but I didn’t really like the Piper character per say, she was strange and I feel like the other main character was spot on. But in the end it all came together and I really liked it.

Good story with a great final twist
Revisado: 01-06-23
A fun take on a little mystery/thriller. Julia Whalen is my favorite narrator so I almost love any book she narrates. But I do like how the characters developed and the ending twist makes the entire book that much better. Not a huge fan of the love interest, it seemed a little pointless. Anyway overall in the end I did really like the book. Definitely one of those who done it good listen.

It is of course a storyline that I’ve seen before. Two law enforcement members team up and go rouge to solve the case. However this one was really good and kept my mind guessing.

Historia
On the day the government decrees that women are no longer allowed more than 100 words daily, Dr. Jean McClellan is in denial. This can't happen here. Not in America. Not to her. This is just the beginning. Soon women are not permitted to hold jobs. Girls are no longer taught to read or write. Females no longer have a voice. Before, the average person spoke 16,000 words a day, but now women only have 100 to make themselves heard. But this is not the end. For herself, her daughter, and every woman silenced, Jean will reclaim her voice.

Excellent Story and Preformance
Revisado: 11-30-21
I usually do not write reviews, but this book seems to have so many mixed ones I thought I would. First off any book is better if Julia whelan narrated it. Second the story line was familiar or similar to recent storylines of oppression of women in books following the Handmaides Tale, which I loved. This one is a book time book not a trilogy, although I think the author could write another. It was very detailed and yes you could see that the storyline was going to lead to a positive outcome, but it was not predictable. I do think that the story had this slow build up and then wrapped up quicker than it should have, I think I wanted more, but overall was a great listen. Yes some people may be offended by the religious aspect, but I don’t know how? It showed religious extremes and not the what is currently happening now, here in America. However situations happen like this all over the world today in places minus the wrist monitor of words. So instead of comparing it to religion and getting offended, maybe one should look where they see similarities in the word today and look on how to help change that. The reason the handmaiden stories and ones like this are so popular is because they are real possibilities. And this story hit the criteria that peaked and kept my interest all the way through. I would love to see a follow up of this either from a view of Patrick or Jackie’s characters or a continuation for the future.

Hoped for more
Revisado: 10-24-21
The first book had a slow build and I was hoping this book in the trilogy would bring them out more which in ways it did, but it still felt surface deep. In some ways I fell like there may have been too many characters to give me what I wanted for each. It had such potential. The concept promised so much but fell flat. There would be a major scene and after I would feel like “that was it?”. Disappointed but I am going to listen to the third and hope that it will come full circle.

Historia
For fans of Cassandra Clare's City of Bones and Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke & Bone, The Girl at Midnight is the story of a modern girl caught in an ancient war. Beneath the streets of New York City live the Avicen, an ancient race of people with feathers for hair and magic running through their veins. Age-old enchantments keep them hidden from humans. All but one. Echo is a runaway pickpocket who survives by selling stolen treasures on the black market, and the Avicen are the only family she's ever known.

Loved the concept, characters and narrator. However it fell short for me.
Revisado: 10-24-21
So I love Julia Whelan and she did great as always. The characters began to develop and did so slowly but never fully reached their potential. The world and story could have brought so much depth but for some reason I felt like it was surface level with a potential for deeper meanings if that makes sense. I’m going to listen to the next book however , hoping that in that book it will pick up more. For this book I did. Like the ending, I just wished for more.

Great Narration and concept. But fell short.
Revisado: 10-24-21
Ok so I for some crazy reason listened to the whole series of this trilogy. The storyline and concept was completely exciting and up my alley. I did enjoy the first book more, but thought that this edition would develop the characters and depth more but did not.
I found parts of the book great, but just not enough. I listen in the evening and kept falling asleep. I felt like the story might have moved slow and if I kept listening it would all come together, but it did not. I felt like the characters developed slowly with so much potential but then left you lacking. So much potential but not enough. In a story like this there is this build of excitement like “oh here its coming, a major event” and then I would say “ That was it?”. So Pros: Great concept and impeccable narration. Julia is one of my favorites. The supporting characters were my favorite. Cons: Main characters never really fully developed. Fell short and lulled in areas. It let me down because the storyline would build slowly and you could see potential but just didn’t get there in the end.
