Historia
In 2013, the German government confiscated roughly 1,300 works by Henri Matisse, George Grosz, Claude Monet, and other masters from the apartment of Cornelius Gurlitt, the reclusive son of one of Hitler's primary art dealers. For two years, the government kept the discovery a secret. In Hitler's Last Hostages, Mary M. Lane reveals the fate of those works and tells the definitive story of art in the Third Reich and Germany's ongoing struggle to right the wrongs of the past.

RIDICULOUS/awful narration by author!
Revisado: 06-08-20
Author certainly knows her own book, but her pronunciation of English, German, & French is unprofessional to the point of distraction! The listener is often "caught" on the strange way she pronounces any number of words, in her own language or others, so much so that part of a sentence is missed and the listener is forced to decide whether to go back or just "skip it". I'd love a nickel for each time I wondered where she was from, or what ethnicity contributed to the ways she learned English; there were just soooo many odd ways she pronounced words that we do not hear from professionals. The inferior narration unnecessarily diminished the otherwise interesting story - get the book in print and READ it if you can, seriously!

Historia
This superbly told story brings to life one of the most remarkable rulers––and men––in all of history and conveys the drama of his life and world. The Russia of Peter's birth was very different from the Russia his energy, genius, and ruthlessness shaped. Crowned co-Tsar as a child of ten, after witnessing bloody uprisings in the streets of Moscow, he would grow up propelled by an unquenchable curiosity, everywhere looking, asking, tinkering, and learning, fired by Western ideas.

WORST NARRATOR EVER! BEWARE!!
Revisado: 10-05-19
Do NOT buy this book unless you are SURE you can can listen to the narrator for over 40 hours. His lisp is troublesome, and his reading is so poor and lazy that many of his sentences just fade away, so it’s impossible to hear their endings. The narrator absolutely ruins the book! I’m so angry. I hate to waste this time struggling to interpret this garbled reading, but the book was well written and I wanted to hear it. How annoying. What a horrible thing to do to a good book.

Almost ruined by the narrator.
Revisado: 10-21-18
One character, a cop named Vasquez, was mentioned throughout the book. The narrator pronounced his name ‘væs-quez’, instead of ‘bahs-kās’, so it sounded like a joke. The narrator’s pronunciation was a perfect parody of an ignorant American, with the most obnoxious, exaggerated mangling of a foreign word I can remember hearing. I was completely distracted every time she said the name.

Weak story, foolish protagonist, silly love life
Revisado: 08-27-18
Author seems almost misogynistic - women are foolish, unprofessional, ignorant, and embarrassing. If the women are decent cops, their absurd personal lives make them unreliable, foolish, and embarrassing. The pseudo Mexican accent is ridiculous. There is no reason that a Mexican American cop from Oregon would have such a thick accent! Romantic issues make the women sound stupid, thoughtless, and ill equipped for adulthood and a serious career in police work.

Historia
Some places earn their bad reputation through tall tales or chance. Grizzly Falls is different. Here, killers aren't just the stuff of legends and campfire lore. Someone is in the nighttime shadows, watching the local teens play around in the moonlit woods. Waiting for the right moment, the right victim. Waiting to take away a life. Detective Regan Pescoli is counting the days until her maternity leave. Exhausted and emotional, the last thing she needs is another suspected serial killer.

TERRIBLE Mexican American accent!!
Revisado: 07-28-18
Why would a cop from California have a Mexican accent? If they should have an accent, then get a better linguist.
Too much “romance”; it makes the two women cops act stupid and shallow. None of the men in the book are that insecure.

SiFi aspects are silly; narration detracts.
Revisado: 07-11-18
Unfckingbelievable story aspects were juvenile and trite. Past narrators were much better. Puller sounded weak and ineffectual, and the woman often sounded like a preteen cheerleader. Good author, skip this one.

Good narrator; sound effects & music are horrific!
Revisado: 07-11-18
Solid narration. The repeated sound effects and goofy music are just horrific! What on earth were they thinking?? No reader with a triple digit IQ needs fake sounds to imagine an auto accident. The special effects were distracting and insulting.

What a terrible narrator!
Revisado: 08-04-17
What did you love best about The Arms of Krupp?
Unusual history.
What did you like best about this story?
The international aspect of Krup contracts and the details about the family.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
His German pronunciation seems affected and clumsy. His pronunciation of the word Krup* was completely distracting. Every time he said Kkkkkruuup, unlike any person I have EVER heard, in Germany or America, I lost my place. It was very distracting and actually interfered and interrupted my listening. English or American pronunciations of foreign titles, names, or places always annoy me - especially when the correction is simple - but this guy is in a class all his own. He almost manages to roll the K; I can't believe the editors or people helping him record this didn't say something. I can only assume they don't speak German and never hear it spoken.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No.
Any additional comments?
Comprehensive.

Academ's fury
Revisado: 08-03-11
Entertaining - tricky to remember all the names - that wouldn't be an issue in a written version. Narrator is tremendous. The bugles and horns that divide sections of the books wake up the animals and my spouse. Those goofy horns are like commercials with volume 10x louder that the TV show.
