Past or Present
Revisado: 03-08-23
This story, as others have said, is very hard to tell when they are in the past or in the present. I also agree with others that the story dragged.

Enjoyable storytelling!
Revisado: 11-09-17
I enjoyed learning about the people from the back country of the Appalachians. This book made me think about how hard it might be for some to leave their native close knit communities and go out into a big city like New York!
The narrator did a great job with different voices that brought the book to life!

Historia
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

As a whole - not a good book
Revisado: 04-24-14
I agree with many others who say that the story idea is a cute idea and at times it is funny and totally unbelievable. I love history but his version put me to sleep! The story of the main character running away from a retirement home is very believable but the series of events are just so far out there that it make the story boring. There was some entertainment value but not much.

UGH!
Revisado: 04-24-14
My mistake, I thought maybe this was an additional little book written by Janet Evanovich to go with her book Takedown Twenty! Unless you are doing a study for a college class and need something like this, this is not worth 10 cents. I do not care to listen to someone's analysis of a book that I read for pure enjoyment. I enjoy Janet's books and the humor and characters in them. This has nothing to do with it! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Long but worth it!
Revisado: 03-28-14
This book is great! You will need to listen to this book and really pay attention....I call books that I can multi-task with , no brainers.....this book is NOT a no brainer!
Ken Follett describes everything with very colorful and artistic vision! You can imagine every character in the book, the beautiful cathedrals and every curve of each piece of architecture that is built! I loved this book! Some descriptions do get drawn out but in the long hall it was worth it all!
This is a classic!

Waste of my money!
Revisado: 03-28-14
I would have returned it, except that I feel that if I actually listened to the book I should keep it and pay for it! I purchased all 3 of these in the series at one time without having any knowledge of what they were about! Basically, there is no story here except innocent girl gets the sick mentally ill man who can only have S&M in his bedroom repertoire. It takes 3 books, thousand of "oh my" being said by the girl and literally hundreds of poorly written S&M scenes. I really believe that this only made the best sellers list because it was for sale in a cover that was not a pornography type cover and made the average house wife feel like she was doing something illicit! Boring! Be creative and you can come up with much better yourself!

YAWN!!!
Revisado: 03-28-14
I guess if you are hungry for S&M this is your book! There is absolutely NO STORY line, or should I say the one there is, you figure out in the first book in the first few chapters. I ignorantly bought all 3 of these Fifty Shades Books, hearing they were all the rage. I will say that my sex life is varied enough that I don't need to read all of this crap written by this woman! I am sorry I purchased the set but I did not wish to return because I did listen to all 3 books hoping that they would get better in some way shape or form! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
All of the characters in this book are shallow and there is no development of anything in this book!

Don't get this just because you like Jodi Picoult
Revisado: 03-27-14
Ok - I love Jodi Picoult's books, they make me think! I have loved every single one except the very first one she wrote (Song of the Humpback Whale) - HUH????
Anyways, I love all the rest of her books and purchased this one thinking that this was another sure deal and a good book. I think Jodi was just trying to help her daughter Samantha Van Leer with book sales. If you have a child who would like to listen to a fairytale romance, this might work for her. I would never recommend for an adult or teenager to read this book. Boring and slow!
