Historia
Scattered across the world, an elite team of code crackers is working tirelessly to thwart the defining cyber scourge of our time. You’ve probably never heard of them. But if you work for a school, a business, a hospital, or a municipal government, or simply cherish your digital data, you may be painfully familiar with the team’s sworn enemy: ransomware. Again and again, an unlikely band of misfits, mostly self-taught and often struggling to make ends meet, have outwitted the underworld of hackers who lock computer networks and demand huge payments in return for the keys.

A book in Desperate need of an Editor
Revisado: 11-09-22
This is meandering story that should be 1/2 or 1/3 as long as it is. Spends way too much time outlining the private lives of way too many characters in the story.
I wanted the story of people actually working on fighting ransomware not their mothers & sisters, or why they are fighting cybercrime while living in a trailer park in Central IL.

I enjoyed watching Adam Savage on MythBusters. In this book he reveals how he works and what makes him tick.
He holds nothing back, sharing all of his insights about being a maker and artist.
I call myself an industrialist. In a small way I am a industrial version of Adam, without the sculpting abilities.
All in all a fascinating listen, especially the doctors bags…

Revisado: 05-07-17
This is a book evangelicals really need to listen to.
I came into this with my guard up expecting revisionist nonsense, but I was delighted to find that I heartily agree with his assessment of the evangelical church and the political landscape. And I think he is very right about the church not doing well when it has political power because Jesus never meant for us to share power, and doing so only weakens the church. I've said for years that the worst thing that happened to the early church what is the rule of Constantine. One more case of those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. Bad news is we're living through that.
This is an important but brief work. Very worthy of a listen. I own over 1000 titles in audible, and I am not usually a fan of authors writing their own work, Coleman is an exception to this. He doesn't excellent job.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

We've Got Another Scientist Who Writes Great Fiction
Revisado: 10-25-15
Take Andromeda strain, Apollo 13 and Animal House, put it in the blender and you'll understand Andy Weir's writing style pretty well. Accurate, crass, funny and nerdy all at the same time. I look forward to his next weekend effort with great anticipation. RC Bray may be my new favorite reader, too!

Historia
Two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize David McCullough tells the dramatic story behind the story about the courageous brothers who taught the world how to fly: Wilbur and Orville Wright.
On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Wilbur and Orville Wright's Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard. The Age of Flight had begun. How did they do it? And why?

A huge story well read
Revisado: 05-14-15
The Wright brothers lived what the steam punk culture aspires to resurrect. Their methodical years long pursuit of flight when others considered them dreamers is told clearly and concisely by an eminent historian at the top of his game, drawing on their considerable documentation of every aspect of their work.
David McCullough's voice at at times betrays his 81 years, but his strong prose more than makes up for the passing of the years. He gives well read a whole new dimension.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Revisado: 01-02-11
Truly a wonderful story of heroism, grinding deprivation, loss of humanity and redemption, balanced against psychopathic evil and hard heartedness to the bitter end. Reads like fiction, yet an AMAZING TRUE STORY, well told by Laura Hillenbrand. I just finished listening to it. It's narrated by one of my favorite narrators, Edward Hermann. Hillenbrand is a great historical writer in the vein of Stephen Ambrose. I hope she continues to build her awe-inspiring body of work.
I loved "Seabiscuit", but was bowled over by "Unbroken". I love history and own many history titles at Audible. Laura Hillenbrand is my new favorite author. The way she handles his story with respect, openness, and three dimensional detail left me clicking on the buttons to play this again immediately, so that I can immerse myself in this literary tapestry and glean more from it.

I really like the Odd Thomas books, so I was looking forward to a great book. Not so. The book really drags and involves too much navel gazing by an unbelievable character. I can't recommend it.
