Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

I liked the short stories within the book but had a tough figuring out who Sunshine was as I thought she was poorly introduced.

Historia
When award-winning ESPN producer Lisa Fenn returned to her hometown for a story about two wrestlers at one of Cleveland's toughest public high schools, she had no idea that the trip would change her life. Both young men were disadvantaged students with significant physical disabilities. Dartanyon Crockett was legally blind as a result of Leber's disease; Leroy Sutton lost both his legs at 11, when he was run over by a train. Brought together by wrestling, they had developed a brother-like bond as they worked to overcome their disabilities.

Long and too many details
Revisado: 03-02-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
There were too many different stories that you had to keep track of and too many details. This made for a very long story that should have finished far earlier than it did. It led me to just wanting the story to be over already.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The ending was just a feel good moment. The characters talked about coincidences and the author buttoned everything up. Very predictable ending.
What does Caroline Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I did enjoy the different accents of Caroline Lee as she brought life to each of the characters.

The scion of an old-money San Francisco family, Daniel Brasher left his well-paying, respectable money-manager position to marry his community organizer wife and work at a job he loves, leading group counseling sessions with recently paroled violent offenders. One night he finds an envelope - one intended for someone else that was placed in his office mailbox by accident. Inside is an unsigned piece of paper, a handwritten note that says, "Admit what you've done or you will bleed for it."

I'm telling no lie - it was ok
Revisado: 07-26-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Overall, I think that story was ok. I never got really excited about the characters and never felt my pulse racing because of the excitement. The performance was ok, too. Just not exciting.
Would you be willing to try another book from Gregg Hurwitz? Why or why not?
Maybe. Though, I don't really think that this is my favorite genre.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Scott Brick?
Depending on the book, I might.
Was Tell No Lies worth the listening time?
It was ok. So, I don't think I wasted my time listening - I'm just not excited about it.
Any additional comments?
This book was a book club choice that I would not have chosen myself. If you like the mystery/action genre - it might be a good choice.

In The Signature of All Things, Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction, inserting her inimitable voice into an enthralling story of love, adventure and discovery. Spanning much of the 18th and 19th centuries, the novel follows the fortunes of the extraordinary Whittaker family as led by the enterprising Henry Whittaker - a poor-born Englishman who makes a great fortune in the South American quinine trade, eventually becoming the richest man in Philadelphia.

I enjoyed it right from the start
Revisado: 06-30-16
If you could sum up The Signature of All Things in three words, what would they be?
One woman's life
Who was your favorite character and why?
Alma. A 20th century woman living in the 19th century. Educated but not worldly. It is a shame that she really never left her home until she was in her 50s. She really didn't start to live until then.
What about Juliet Stevenson’s performance did you like?
Juliet Stevenson's voice is just so easy to listen to; one of my favorite readers.

Might have liked it better if read by a woman
Revisado: 12-22-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I found this book a bit of a waste of time. I did not find the characters believable and found much of the dialogue forced. I honestly was relieved when it finally ended.
That said, this book was chosen as a selection for my bookclub. Other members of the club who read the book (rather than listening) loved the book. They found it touching and a bit of a love story.
I think that having a man read the story was a miss. Had it been read by a woman, perhaps I would have sympathized more with the characters.
Would you be willing to try another book from Sandra Brown? Why or why not?
I am not sure if I would try another Sandra Brown book. As I mentioned, this was selected by my book club. I think it would depend on the book.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I thought that Jonathon Davis did a great job with his many voices -- however, I think the book should have been read by a woman.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No.

Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder.... Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery. Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Under his guidance Jenny unexpectedly acquires a husband - the charming and chaotic Russell Checkland.

Suprisingly enjoyable
Revisado: 11-25-15
I'll be honest. I purchased this book for it's price and was not expecting much.
I downloaded the book onto my phone and started reading.
Let me be clear, the fact that the main (adult) character has an imaginary horse is a bit strange. But I found that the characters were believable and the story entertaining. Is it great lit? No. But is it an entertaining read? Yes.
