I was enjoying this until the author bought up a native spirit guide and used all of the troops we dislike so much. it was hard to get thru i couldn't. It was insulting. the way he described the Navajo language was gross. If that is what the author thinks of us I'm out. Ten out of ten don't recommend.

As a young child in North Carolina, Jacob Tobia wasn't the wrong gender, they just had too much of the stuff. Barbies? Yes. Playing with bugs? Absolutely. Getting muddy? Please. Princess dresses? You betcha. Jacob wanted it all, but because they were "a boy", they were told they could only have the masculine half. Acting feminine labelled them "a sissy" and brought social isolation. It took Jacob years to discover that being "a sissy" isn't something to be ashamed of. It's a source of pride.

This book is amazing

I cried more than once. Ehen they start talking about their father and coming to terms with their gender I lost it. my mum still doesnt understand and I dont think she ever really will. hearing any person going thru similar and making it thru was cathartic. I'm 31 and my mother still thinks my sexuality is a faze. I hope one day she will except all of me.
I suggest this book to anyone in the LGBTQ community or outside. Listening to others voices matters.
