Historia
As a precocious kid who took Broadway by storm at the age of 18, Laura Benanti spent her formative years playing grown-ups onstage, but it took her a while to figure out how to be one in real life. With her razor-sharp wit and unapologetic candor, Benanti shares her hard-won insights on topics like marriage, motherhood, perimenopause, female friendship, and making peace with the younger versions of ourselves.

Sooo enjoyable and surprisingly relatable
Revisado: 09-28-24
I did not expect to be laughing out loud as I listened to this production. I was disappointed to miss it at the Minetta Lane theater and grateful for Audible Theater. Laura Benanti was entertaining as she shared clips of her life and when she sang - wow! As a woman I appreciated her commentary on our female journey.

Historia
Sandy Pressman is a nice suburban wife whose boredom is getting the best of her. She could be making friends at the club, like her husband keeps encouraging her to do. Or working on her golf game. Or getting her hair done. But for some reason, these things don't interest her as much as the naked man on the motorcycle.

Unexpected
Revisado: 08-14-24
This was quite a diversion from the typical Judy Blume book and I loved it. Well, there reports that were humorous. There are also parts that were very realistic. It is definitely relatable to the upper middle class suburbanites. I wish Judy Blume had written some more adult type books.

Went on longer than necessary
Revisado: 07-07-24
I was drawn in and then I got bored unfortunately. I listen to the end only because I wanted to hear how it wrapped up. I would call this mystery fluff. Other reviews mentioned the twist and turns, but after a while it didn’t intrigue me anymore.

Typical romantic story with some erotica thrown in
Revisado: 01-25-24
There is nothing earth shattering about the story and it’s a nice quick listen. I didn’t love it, however, and even fast forwarded some of the sex scenes because I got bored with all the description. I did end up listening to see how it ended and I will say I loved the ending.

Enjoyed this book more than I anticipated. I did have to keep reminding myself that it was referring to current time period as it kept seeming like it was written for a historical era.

Getting paid $80,000 to stay in bed for 13 weeks? That sounds like a dream job for Vanessa, one of 12 participants chosen for a bedrest study. Played by Karla Souza (How to Get Away with Murder), Vanessa is looking forward to earning extra money while putting her troubles—her mom’s death, an unplanned pregnancy, and a falling out with her cousin/best friend Brigid (Zoë Winters of Succession)—on pause. Vanessa quickly realizes, however, that she cannot outrun her problems...especially with her legs beginning to atrophy.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Revisado: 10-20-23
One of my new favorite books! for me, this touched on so many things close to my heart as a former chemistry major, and as someone who did face sexual discrimination along my path in medicine. And also as someone who used to row and embraced my love of cooking because of my love of chemistry. Really looking forward to the TV series and hoping that the show does the book justice.

Sadly the story was very predictable and overall just a trashy beach read. I’m confused by the positive reviews.

Surprised how drawn into this story I became
Revisado: 05-27-23
As I begin listening, I thought this would be a typical predictable story, and although some aspects were a little predictable, I found myself unable to stop listening halfway through and focus on the story while typically I multitask while listening to audible books. I really love the different paths that the book took as well as the ending. I’m impressed with the strength of the characters as well.
