Historia
A queer and dangerously hungry mountain lion lives in the drought-devastated land under the Hollywood sign. Lonely and fascinated by humanity’s foibles, the lion spends their days protecting the welfare of a nearby homeless encampment, observing obnoxious hikers complain about their trauma, and, in quiet moments, grappling with the complexities of their gender identity, memories of a vicious father, and the indignities of sentience. “I have so much language in my brain,” our lion says, “and nowhere to put it.”

Wonderful Story
Revisado: 07-16-24
I had to listen to this short novella 2x it was so wonderfully written and performed. Loved that it was narrated by the main character... a young mountain lion. This is not a children's story...it is definitely a story that makes you pause and think about our world today. It's so many things... amusing, sweet, touching, ugly, truthful and thought provoking. I highly recommend it.

Historia
Still reeling from the sudden death of her mother, Jess is about to do the hardest thing she's ever done: empty her childhood home so that it can be sold. As she sorts through a lifetime of memories, everything comes to a halt when she comes across something she just can’t part with: an old set of encyclopedias. To the world, the books are outdated and ready to be recycled. To Jess, they represent love and the future that her mother always wanted her to have.

enjoyed listening but...
Revisado: 11-12-23
I enjoyed the concept of how important it is to acknowledge the stories that we gather around things that we've kept. I found the story overall interesting but I really must say I had difficulty at the ending. it felt like a weird deus ex machina. As if the author couldn't figure out how to end it and just stuck this ending on. All the while trying to make it very important and heartfelt.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

A Wonderful Production

I did something that I have only done once before with this book... And that was many, many years ago. When I finished listening to it I waited a day or so and since I couldn't get it out of my head I just started listening to it again. I loved hearing all the different voices. Each actor truly wecreated a living breathing character for me. When I looked at a hard copy of the book one day at Target I saw, it's written as a theatrical script. Of course this was THE way to experience the book

An Amazing Story
Revisado: 01-26-23
This is something all should read. We hear so much about people migrating and trying so hard to get to the USA from various South & Central American countries away from poor living conditions. This book gave me an understanding of just how difficult such a journey can be. I decided to listen to this book after hearing the author interviewed. Hearing him tell his personal experience as a 9 year old migrating made it even more potent.

Wonderful Production & Important Story
Revisado: 07-05-22
I was very impressed with the performances the writing, the whole production including sound effects and feeling like it was really happening right there in front of me.. not just in my ears. To be honest I didn't expect it to be as engrossing as it became. And I really appreciate that it was a true story, part of our history ( a very disturbing time in our history.... and told from an interesting perspective. Thankyou audible for doing this.

Historia
Beginning with a sweetly funny, moving account of her arranged marriage, the author undercuts stereotypes and offers the refreshing view of an American life through Muslim eyes. In chapters leavened with humor, hope, and insight, she recounts an immigrant's daily struggles balancing assimilation with preserving heritage, overcoming religious barriers from within and distortions of Islam from without, and confronting issues of raising her children as Muslims - while they lobby for a Christmas tree!

LEARNED SO MUCH!
Revisado: 05-02-22
I am not Muslim. but for the 3rd year I chose to observe Ramadan with a friend who is Muslim by fasting one day with her. This year, in addition to the 1 day fast I decided to read (or actually listen) to a book about being Muslim during the month of Ramadan. I began it the first day of Ramadan and I finished it on Eid. It was a wonderful story, beautifully told & well performed by the author who generously shared her life story. She taught me a tremendous amount about Islam being a Muslim and how one could take the teachings of Islam and move them into an American lifestyle. I truly recommend this book anyone seeking information about Islam. I particularly appreciated it being from a woman's viewpoint as well.

You need to read this
Revisado: 09-20-21
It was so interesting learnng about the author's experience in her own words. She has a profound way of expressing herself. How she interprets all that she went through, is an eye opener to how much bias, there is towards women and victims of sexual crimes. A must read.

An Amazing Cast and Production!
Revisado: 12-22-20
This was a most amazing performance. Audra McDonald was incredible. I would never have thought of her in this role. An amazing artist. As well as Carla Gugino. The women were truly upfront and created a really special, different and exciting take on this script. In the past I always thought it was about Stanley. In this production played by Ariel Shafir who was as strong as the women though his character was not always where the focus went. This was a production about the women, and it was a new and different experience.

A Wonderful Listening Experience
Revisado: 11-13-20
I first read this book many years ago and loved it. I truly adored listening to it now, having forgotten most of it. The interweaving of history (Holocaust, literature, Houdini, Cartooning, and NY) with an amazing story was sublime. The narration was wonderfully alive, with voices and textures. So glad I could disappear into this story.
