Historia
April 1916, Germany: Anna Zeller, whose fiancé, Bruno, is fighting on the western front, works as a nurse at an overcrowded hospital in Oldenburg, trying to comfort men broken in body and spirit. But during a visit from Dr. Stalling, the director of the Red Cross Ambulance Dogs Association, she witnesses a rare spark of optimism: as a German shepherd guides a battle-blinded soldier over a garden path, Dr. Stalling is inspired with an idea-to train dogs as companions for sightless veterans.

Too much sex, lessened greatly the impact of the story
Revisado: 04-27-25
This is the third of Alan Hlad's books so far that I've listened to and this one had too much sex. I just got tired of listening to it and the description of how they all felt while going at it and how they did it and all that. I quit at 3 hours because I figured how much more of this am I going to have to listen to? it's a good story, Hlad is a good writer and his books have always been worth the credit but, sadly, no more. How the story turned out just didn't matter anymore. I have the last one he wrote to listen to yet and I hope I don't have to stop 3 hours before it's over either. I won't be getting anymore.

Fun listen, wonderful narration, very interesting historical descriptions.
Revisado: 04-17-25
I love this series! the narrator is wonderful the story is interesting, especially how the author weaves in the details of the age in which it takes place, and there's not one swear word in the whole thing or in any of the series so far. I am very much looking forward to listening to the rest of them.

In the annals of seafaring and exploration, there is one name that immediately evokes visions of the open ocean, billowing sails, visiting strange, exotic lands previously uncharted, and civilizations never before encountered - Captain James Cook. Full of realistic action, lush descriptions of places and events, and fascinating historical characters such as King George III and the soon-to-be-notorious Master William Bligh, Dugard's gripping account of the life and death of Captain James Cook is a thrilling story of a discoverer hell-bent on going farther than any man.

Good story, bad narrator
Revisado: 01-01-25
Well written story and flows well. Kept me interested. Narrator was extremely poor
and read like an automaton. If it weren't for the quality of the story I would never have finished it.

Independence Day weekend, 1960: a young cop is murdered, shocking his close-knit community in Stamford, Connecticut. The killer remains at large, his identity still unknown. In fact, the man—a prisoner out on parole—had called him only days before. By helping his former charge and trainee, the doctor, a believer in second chances, may have inadvertently helped set the murder into motion.

Revisado: 05-26-24
Good research, a well-written true story weaving so many lives together, and a very good performance. I struggled a bit with all the characters and the families and their interactions no doubt because I was listening and couldn't read the book myself and make some lists in the front of who was whom. By a little after midway I pretty much had everybody where they belonged on the chessboard. The history of Leopold and Loeb was fascinating.

I was taken in by the name of the author, the title, and the picture on the cover. I guess it's my own fault I didn't look into the description further. anyway it was not at all what it appeared to be, to me anyway, and I found myself skipping many parts. sorry that I used an audible credit for it.

Revisado: 02-26-24
This is the third of this series I've listened to and each story has been well written and lots of fun. The performance of the reader has been excellent and I've already researched her for some of the other books she has narrated. I hope she always is used for Dianne Freeman's work.
