Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Historia
Virtually all Americans above a certain age hold strong opinions about Douglas MacArthur. They either worship him or despise him. Now, in this superb book, one of our most outstanding writers, after a meticulous three-year examination of the record, presents his startling insights about the man. The narrative is gripping, because the general's life was fascinating. It is moving, because he was a man of vision. It ends, finally, in tragedy, because his character, though majestic, was tragically flawed.

Not Caesar
Revisado: 07-18-17
If you could sum up American Caesar in three words, what would they be?
Incorrectly Titled, but still worth reading
Any additional comments?
Great bio of MacArthur, but don't read if you want legitimately sound or even valid parallels to Caesar. The title misleads, and one gets the sense that an editor/publisher just slapped it on there for appeal, which degrades the subject and title's namesake simultaneously. Often, Manchester is found to have slapped a few half-hearted comparisons at the end of long passages, as if it was retroactively titled for sexiness.

Historia
Maverick thinker Nassim Nicholas Taleb had an illustrious career on Wall Street before turning his focus to his black swan theory. Not all swans are white, and not all events, no matter what the experts think, are predictable. Taleb shows that black swans, like 9/11, cannot be foreseen and have an immeasurable impact on the world.

Historia
For anyone interested in foreign affairs, this book will catalyze debate, and not only for Mr. Huntington's concluding scenario for World War III. He sees how this could happen if the U.S. mishandles an increasingly xenophobic and truculent China. Chinese assertiveness, Huntington argues, rises out of its felt grievances against a relatively weakening West. After China, the gravest challenge to the West is resurgent Islamic identity.

The Most Important Book You'll Read This Year

Poor performance despite excellent work
Revisado: 03-19-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
There is a major opportunity to match this work with a worthy reading performance.
What other book might you compare The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order to and why?
Anything by Francis Fukuyama
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Poor pronunciation and an effeminate tone detracted from important emphasis throughout. As the reader attempted to emphasize central points in the work, I thought his voice was going to fail him.
Did The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order inspire you to do anything?
Yes, it inspired me to study these subjects further.

Historia
Virgil's Georgics ranks as one of the most precious pastoral poems ever written, and it has served as a model for its type ever since. Georgics means "of or relating to agriculture or rural life" and it comes from the Greek word, "georgicus". Virgil's main theme in this, his second great work after The Eclogues, was the importance of peace both in the spiritual and physical sense.

Awesome!
Revisado: 06-25-12
What made the experience of listening to The Georgics the most enjoyable?
A great opening essay will set this version apart. There are also the musical intros and the amazing voice of the narrator. I could listen to this once a week and not get tired of it.
