Historia
It's late 1936, and King Edward is in turmoil, having fallen in love with the scandalously divorced and even more scandalously American Wallis Simpson. He wants to marry her but knows that doing so will jeopardize his crown. Edward confides in his dear friend Darcy, Georgie's husband, and the couple agree to hide Wallis in their home while Edward figures out what to do. But unbeknownst to Georgie and Darcy, Sir Hubert, the owner of the estate, has given a film crew permission to shoot a motion picture about Henry the Eighth and Anne Boleyn on the grounds

Very slow at first before returning to form
Revisado: 12-17-24
After the last two novels I had almost given up hope for a series that has been one of my favorites and the early going was a bit of a slog and the storyline was predictable. The story caught some wind in the last part of the novel however and returned to something of its earlier form. I'll be interested to see where the story goes from here.

Historia
July 1912. Lady Hardcastle and her tenacious lady’s maid, Florence Armstrong, are enjoying a convivial gathering at the home of their dear friends, the Farley-Strouds. The only fly in the idyllic ointment seems to be the lack of musical entertainment for the forthcoming summer party—until, that is, Lady Hardcastle’s brother Harry calls with news of a murder.

Fun
Revisado: 05-23-24
The story continues with the same lighthearted revelry and blasé attitude towards their dangerous pursuits. The dialogue is as fun as always and there’s plenty of twists and turns in the plot but the interactions between the two main characters and the supporting cast are somewhat more muted than in previous installments so I left the overall rating at 4 stars. I’ll be impatiently waiting for the next installment to the series.

Interesting material and an excellent reading performance
Revisado: 09-17-21
I found the book’s premise intriguing, identify the first people to do, discover, or invent something. The author goes in depth to give us the best possible answer and while diving into material that can be at times somewhat dull does an excellent job of keeping the reader engaged and interested. The audible performance of the book was excellent and I really enjoyed the performers deep steady voice and pace.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Historia
Throughout history, food has acted as a catalyst of social change, political organization, geopolitical competition, industrial development, military conflict, and economic expansion. An Edible History of Humanity is a pithy, entertaining account of how a series of changes---caused, enabled, or influenced by food---has helped to shape and transform societies around the world.

excellent content acceptable performance
Revisado: 05-26-21
The content of the book is wonderful, briefly covering many interesting topics with some in depth material but never becoming so engrossed in a single topic as to bore the reader (listener). The narrator is a bit plodding and by speeding up the playback to 110% or even 115% the performance breaks out of the doldrums and into the realm of the earnestly excited professor lecturing on their absolute favorite subject. I would highly recommend this audiobook to anyone inclined towards history.

Historia
Georgie's best friend, Belinda, inherits a spooky old house in Cornwall and asks Georgie to go with her to inspect the property. When they arrive, they meet Rose, a woman Belinda knew as a child when she spent her summers with her grandmother in Cornwall. Belinda never liked Rose, who has always been bossy and a bit of a bully, but when Belinda's house proves to be uninhabitable, Rose invites them to stay with her. Rose is now married to Tony Summers, Belinda's childhood crush, and lives in the lovely house on the cliffs that he has inherited.

Starts a bit slow but ends with a bang
Revisado: 09-11-20
The story feels a bit different from the other books in the series. Yes it still has the usual murder with one of Georgie's close friends being under suspicion, but the reveal and backstory of it are really quite chilling. The house fire sequence at the end is rather unbelievable since no police officer would let the confessed murder leave everybody's sight to grab an overnight bag, but overall I found the book a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Historia
Georgie, or Lady Georgiana Rannoch, is busy planning her upcoming nuptials to Darcy O'Mara. Unfortunately, what has started as a simple wedding has become quite a royal headache and grand affair, thanks to a guest list that includes the queen and the appointment of princesses as Georgie's bridesmaids. “If only Darcy and I had eloped!” she thinks, as she attempts to organize her wedding and find a place for her and her husband-to-be to live. Just as she despairs of ever finding a home, her godfather offers his fully staffed country estate. But something sinister is afoot....

New reader really pulls me out of the story
Revisado: 05-13-20
Not having Katherine Kelgren read the story really hurts the performance and whenever the new reader has to read Darcy it totally pulls me out of the story.

Shouldn't be this enjoyable, but it is.
Revisado: 04-16-20
I originally rated this as a 4 star book but the longer the story marinated in my brain the more I chuckled at it until I had to listen to it again, and not unlike every Will Ferrell movie I've ever watched, enjoyed it more the second time thru.

depressing story hilariously written

I actually read this book through before buying the audio version and found the audio version to somehow be more depressing than my own internal reading was, but still found it highly enjoyable.
