Historia
Since the start of the hit TV show Swift in 2013, its cast and crew have been plagued by misfortune. First, a star actress pulls out of the show before it begins—and by 2019, there have been multiple injuries by fall, fire, or drowning; two deaths; and two missing persons cases. The popular media around Bath, England, quickly decides it's a curse, but is it as simple as that? Is someone behind these fishy incidents?

Wonderful- but just one thing…
Revisado: 12-08-22
Absolutely delightful! But one thing— I’m surprised no one advised James Langton that Candide is pronounced “can - DEED.” That grated throughout—especially when the play was mentioned as the inspiration for the character’s name.

Historia
The corpse of a beautiful woman, clad in only a bathing suit, is found strangled to death on a popular Sussex beach. When she is finally identified, it turns out she was a top profiler for the National Crime Faculty who was working on the case of a serial killer. And though she was a Bath resident, the authorities don't want Detective Superintendent Peter Diamond to investigate the murder. How strange. What could they be trying to hide?

Historia
Henry Bins hasn’t seen his mother in 30 years. She walked out when he was six and never looked back. Five years ago, Henry started looking for her. Now she’s been found. At the bottom of the Potomac River. Henry soon learns everything he thought he knew about his mother was a lie. And that maybe his condition wasn’t the reason his mother left all those years ago. Because Sally Bins wasn’t your average woman. She was a spy.

A complete crime fiction box set! Homicide detective Thomas Prescott may be retired—but a serial killer, a high-profile murder, an ill-fated cruise, and a chilling small-town crime add more than enough excitement to his hard-earned rest. This collection includes the first four books: Unforeseen, Gray Matter, The Afrikaans, and Show Me.

Wow! Best. Deal. Ever.
Revisado: 08-22-22
Hilarious, unexpected, fun. I thoroughly enjoyed this series. Yes, Thomas Prescott is an asshole— not infrequently sexist, homophobic, a doofus. But he’s pretty self-aware, definitely funny. And loves pigs. An enjoyable interesting ride with a real character who is a Real Character!

Historia
Like many mysteries, this one begins with a murder. But in this case, the victim happens to be the detective, on the verge of revealing the culprit in an earlier crime. Had Shadwell Rafferty identified his own murderer? When news of Rafferty’s death reaches Sherlock Holmes, in Chicago on the last leg of an American speaking tour, the world’s most famous detective and his redoubtable companion Watson rush to Minnesota to hunt for their friend’s killer.

An unforgettable series
Revisado: 07-11-22
This is a magnificent series. I’m so sorry to see it end! You will feel you know Shadwell Rafferty and his best friend, Wash Johnson. Holmes and Watson are artfully woven into these tales. Larry Millett is a wonderful mystery writer as well as a skilled historian. It was fascinating to learn all about Minnesota and its development. I am sorry to see Shadwell Rafferty and this series end.

Six stars!
Revisado: 06-27-22
This is a wonderful book, brilliantly presented. The author is ingenious in wrapping her characters and plot around other fictional characters as well as historical events and persons. Engaging, witty— 6 stars! Or ten! I highly recommend it.

Historia
St. Paul, Minnesota. October 1, 1917. High above the city, a renowned local financier named Artemis Dodge lies facedown on the floor of his armored penthouse sanctuary, a single bullet hole in his head. Thirty stories up, in the city’s tallest building, and not a shred of evidence or sign pointing to anyone having broken into the wealthy man’s fortress. It is - to all appearances - an impossible crime.

Magnificent
Revisado: 04-06-22
I adore Sherlock Holmes and was doubtful that a pastiche would do his canon justice.
Six Larry Millet books later, I am a believer! His books are an artful, magnificent combination of Holmes’ peerless methods and personality, the singular voice of Watson, unforgettable new characters like Shadwell Rafferty and “Wash” Thomas and the fascinating historical detail and atmosphere Millet creates with his encyclopedic knowledge of Minnesota, St. Paul and Minneapolis. I am sad to have finished all six— perfectly narrated by Steve Hendrickson. I eagerly await Larry Millet’s most recent book— but am heartbroken that it is Shadwell Rafferty’s last case.
