Loved the story and twists! Loved Wil Wheaton -- super job! Loved Hera! If the plots weren't always mind boggling, this would make a fun fun series.

Great narration!
As with many mysteries, dragged in the middle while we checked alibis and suspected. Also as with many mysteries, it picked up when the final victim was murdered.

Narrator saved the series from one star
Revisado: 06-17-24
This series is around two books too long. The plot is interesting though predictable. I will say it would've been more enjoyable to read about someone, anyone, who lived for something other than revenge. Revenge was nearly every character's reason for living! (Well, it's true Duncan and The Watchers had more altruistic motives than revenge for their actions.)
Better writing and the removal of inane characters such as Vesuvius and the trolls, as well as dragons with no development of their existence, would have helped shorten it. I agree with many reviewers who said the author needs a thesaurus and a general education on usage and phrasing: hearing "she stood there," "he stood there," "they stood there," instead of "he stood," or preferably some other verb, countless times throughout the entire series was maddening and made me want to throw the device across the room after a few chapters in the first volume.
I really wanted to love this series (I've had the books for years but have just recently had the time to read them all), but I just kept rolling my eyes so much. I listened to the end of it, skimming the last two books so I could tie up the loose ends for those few characters I cared about.
I'm sorry to say it, but it's clear now why this was self-published.
The narrator was great with the many different voices and the expression he gave to it all.

Fun though sometimes slow plots but great narration
Revisado: 01-14-24
I guess I'm hooked on Neil Dudgeon's voice -- these stories are easy to listen to, with sometimes boring parts that just seem like filler, but Neil Dudgeon does a great job with the retired American cop. I really like that he doesn't try too hard to recreate female voices with whispery high-pitch and just relies on accent, tone, and attitude to show the differences in characters.

Vibrating background noise was obnoxious
Revisado: 01-12-24
The vibrating background sound was obnoxious. Reminded me of the sound in the old-timey days when TV stations signed off the air. I couldn't get past it to relax. Very disappointed.

Respect
Revisado: 05-28-22
I intended to pre-order the book but, in the end, decided I wanted to hear Will Smith tell his story in his own voice. I'm glad I chose the audiobook.
Great beginnings, middle, endings. Honesty flows through each chapter. I laughed reading some of the reviews that were incredulous over his "greatest movie star in the world" comments. If they really thought he took it seriously all the time, then I guess they don't really understand him. But it all felt real. His pain was real -- with his family growing up, his parents, his relationships, the elation of his career taking off. He didn't have to write about his own mistreatment of the women in his life, but he did. He took responsibility for that. For the men friends in his life, too. He doesn't gloss over his treatment of his wives or his children. He rejoices in precious times, such as when his children are born. I think he loves his family and those around him.
I'm glad I read the book.

Not a great collection
Revisado: 02-14-20
If you haven't read many Christmas stories, then this may be for you; otherwise, you may be bored by this set. This book contained only one or two stories I hadn't already read.
And when you get to the conversation of the Santa Claus post office, you'll probably skip it after several minutes, as I wanted to but didn't. With all the fantastic Christmas stories out there, why would you advertise "stories" but include something similar to a news report? Was it my imagination, or was that also the longest piece in the book?
I was very disappointed with this purchase. I hope I have better luck in finding good stories next Christmas season.

Tony and Emmy Award-winner Billy Crystal leads an all-star cast including Oscar winner Kevin Kline (President David Murray) and four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening (First Lady Katherine Murray) in a performance of this hilarious and poignant story about a man desperately scrambling to put his affairs in order: to save his presidency, his marriage, his relationship with his daughter – and possibly his life.

Delightful!
Revisado: 01-22-20
Story: The Angel of Death comes to retrieve the President of the United States, and the President asks for the entire day to prepare to leave his wife, his daughter, his constituents, and the people he works with.
Stellar cast! I chose this audio because Annette Bening and Kevin Kline were a part of it. I'm not sure I'd have chosen it if only Billy Crystal had starred -- but I'm so glad I had enough confidence in his comedy/drama performances. A good comedian can bring us to tears with a good dramatic performance.
The supporting cast was versatile, and each contributed to the story in a really solid, fun way. Good choices.
Kevin Kline's acting is always marvelous, and I love that he can become that character and make me forget about Kline. I've enjoyed every single thing I've ever seen/heard him in.
But it was Annette Bening whose performance blew me out of the water. It usually does. I never expect the power she exudes. I absolutely loved her in this.
I gave the story 5 stars, but it was the actors who carried it past 4.5. I'm still not sure it wouldn't have been better if the President had actually died -- like Anthony Hopkins' character did when he saved his daughter (played by Claire Forlani) in Meet Joe Black. But then, it would've been another story, and I wouldn't have been surprised.
I don't usually read/listen to a book twice, but I'm betting I'll make an exception for this one.

Excellent for the type of story it is...
Revisado: 01-22-20
...which is a light murder mystery. It's not a thriller, it's not a suspense novel, it's a whodunit with characters who are not caught up in some sexual attraction thing that detracts from a light story. Jack and Sarah are friends, a relationship many writers just don't know how to write.
I read this entire series and plan to read any others with these two protagonists. It's perfect for listening to when I'm driving, doing housework, crafting. The stories are not always riveting, but that's okay, since I'm not really looking for that. I'm looking for light entertainment, and this is perfect
