Insightful
Revisado: 06-04-22
I wish I could say I enjoyed it as much as Bones and The Terrible, both of which I have listened to about 15 times. This was not a story, but a journey, one which I have been on for many, many years. It is not a light book and it contains so much information that at times it feels overwhelming. Having said that, I am sure I will read it again and again. I find the authors voice mesmerizing. She could be reading the telephone directory and I still would enjoy it. What I would really like is to see Oprah interviewing Yrsa.

Historia
Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

Have listened to this book 5 times on more
Revisado: 05-30-22
This author is an incredible writer. I have listened to this book 5 times and I am still confused. I am going to attempt to listen one more time at least. There are so many time changes that one needs a photographic memory to keep on track. Oh, I certainly don’t possess one of these. When I first started listening to this book, I fell asleep every time.

Historia
Shaken by the loss of her father, drained by her job at the United Nations, and conflicted over failed relationships, Natasha Scripture asked herself the question at the heart of her anxiety: What is my purpose? The answer was not about finding love; it was about recognizing its source. The result is Man Fast, a true and intimate spiritual detective story. With courage, honesty, and wit, Natasha shares the story of her awakening.

Frustrated
Revisado: 06-05-19
I have never given a negative review before but I feel I need to be honest. First of all, Natasha should have had someone else read her book. I felt like she was disconnected from what she was saying, like she was reading somebody else’s diary. I was frustrated with her Sanskrit pronunciations - many mistakes. It felt like she had been given an assignment and had looked up definitions. The best parts of her book were other people’s quotes. If you want to feel inspired to get on the spiritual journey, then this book is probably not for you. I appreciate that she is at the beginning of her spiritual journey and that, for the most part, she is doing it without a teacher. I wanted to give up but I also hoped it would get better. Eventually it did near the end. She has obviously had some spiritual revelations; but she gained a little bit of knowledge, and then proceeded to come across as the teacher. The author makes enlightenment sound so easy. The fact is, to remain in that state requires much spiritual practice and can take lifetimes. The Gospel of Shri Ramakrishna describes the state very well. Having said all this, it is her story. I think she is an OK writer but neither particularly inspiring nor poetic. Given the subject matter, I was looking forward to listening to it. However, I was sorely disappointed. I hope she continues on her journey since it is the most exciting one that life has to offer.

Historia
From navigating the oft competing worlds of religion and desire, to balancing society’s expectations with the raw experience of being a woman in the world; from detailing the experiences of growing up as a first generation black British woman, to working through situations of dependence and abuse; from finding solace in the echoing caverns of depression and loss, to exploring the vulnerability and redemption in falling in love, each of the raw and immediate poems in Daley-Ward’s bone resonates to the core of what it means to be human.

I have a bone to pick
Revisado: 05-19-19
I never liked poetry. Perhaps that is because I only heard it at school. I have listened to Bone six times in less than six months. I cannot get enough of it. Every time I listen, it is fresh, like I have never heard it before. I want to shout to the world that this book is one to be reckoned with. I have also listened to The Terrible six times! I cannot recommend this author enough: she is at the top of my list.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Poetry
Revisado: 05-19-19
I've never enjoyed poetry - until now. I have never enjoyed an audible book as much as this one - and I've heard a few. Loved the author's accent and just the way she drew me into a subject in which I had no interest; but it didn't matter. Absolutely brilliant in every way.
