I cannot recommend this book. The author is also a terrific narrator - he sounds like he’s yelling at you.

Historia
Understanding the 33 Doctors of the Catholic Church can require a lot of study. And even so, it is hard to get into the spirit of the teachings from the Doctors. Their lives are as varied as their accomplishments. To learn even a little bit about these unique souls who were chosen to experience and describe for the faithful the depth and interior meaning of the teachings of the Church has profound value. But it also shows the individual grandeur of these great figures in Church history.

Horrible
Revisado: 10-11-19
The old saying, “an inch deep and a mile wide” comes to mind. The authors display little comprehension of the thoughts of the saints represented, tinged with modernism. The narrator slaughters Latin pronunciation, and slaughters even names right and left. Horrible on all fronts.

Historia
World History of Warfare covers worldwide military history from ancient times to the present and is designed for college courses. Its principal theme is an exploration of change and continuity, revolution and tradition, in three thousand years of warfare. It teaches students and general listeners how warfare evolved and how that evolution affected human society, with emphasis on major turning points in the conduct of warfare rather than a superficial general history of wars.

Buckle up - you're in for a rought ride
Revisado: 10-05-18
I wanted to like this book; had I read it, I probably would. I was constantly sidetracked by the horrid narration. You cannot go beyond 4 minutes without encountering a mispronounced word; in some sections, you cannot go beyond 30 seconds. One would hope (and one might reasonably expect), that a narrator of a non-fiction book concerning warfare as it existed from pre/proto history, through the various geographies of Greece/Rome/China/Japan/Korea/Europe/Africa/America, would either have a familiarity with the major languages in those areas/times, or at least seek to familiarize himself with them. Nope. The sections on Greece and Rome are atrocious. He leaves these chapters littered with the corpses of the many words/concepts/people he's mangled along the way. The sections on European warfare are no better. Even his pronunciation of English is at times odd, as if he's reading words he's never heard pronounced. If you prefer that narrators narrate unobtrusively, this is certainly not a book for you. The content was good, but the narration was so awful, I have to demand my money back, and I'll buy the book instead.

Bunmi Laditan's hilarious, satirical guide to toddlerhood offers parents instant (and very welcome) comic relief - along with the very good news that It's Not Your Fault. Chapters cover the cost of raising a toddler, feeding your toddler, potty training, tantrums, how to manage the holidays, and "how not to die inside".

Awful - as in: really really bad

The frequent swearing and obscenity comes across as infantile in the same way that preteens sound when they're swearing in order to appear more grown-up. The humor is forced. This was an absolute chore to listen to. Hated it. Hated it.

I was hoping for a historical novel. This is a woman's fantasy of what it would be like to marry a seventeenth century highlander, complete with endless pages of intimate acts, over and over again.

I don't know how many books I've read in my life. A lot, I guess. But few would wring from me the adjective "superb", perhaps none since Updike's 'Rabbit Redux' some three decades ago. Don't taste it, devour it and feel it seep into your bones.

Historia
Charlemagne was easily one of the most fascinating figures in Western civilization, as well as the most heroic and romantic. The 47 years of his reign marked some of the most significant and far reaching events of the Middle Ages. Undoubtedly, it was his enlightened vision for Europe that resulted in the Carolingian Renaissance, a period of cultural flowering that never really ceased to develop, and which led in a straight line directly to that period of astonishing achievement we now call the High Gothic.

Terrible narration of a good book
Revisado: 03-30-16
As others have noted, the narrator is difficult to listen to - he sounds very much like Mr. Peterman from Seinfeld. Also, and I can't emphasize this enough - PLEASE find narrators who can actually pronounce the terminology in the book CORRECTLY. "Synod" pronounced "SIGH-nod", seriously? 30-40 words mispronounced over and over again is very grating.

Waste of time
Revisado: 02-23-16
The only thing worse than the stilted, silly dialogue is the incredibly awful narration. I regret the purchase and the time I wasted on this. I wish there were a button on the Audible site to automatically filter out anything narrated by Edoardo Ballerini, just to be sure I don't accidentally find myself listening to him again.
