More fun stories
Revisado: 11-29-24
Yes, a lot of the content is needlessly immature but the performance by Jonathan Sleep is fantastic and I miss the antics of asshole friends, lost to time, exactly like these.

Historia
On the forge world of Morod, the machines never stop and the work never ends. The population toils in the mines and factoria to protect humanity from the monsters in the void, while the Adeptus Mechanicus enjoy lives of palatial comfort. Genetor Gammat Triskellian seeks to end this stagnant corruption. When he learns of a twisted congregation operating within the shadows, one which believes that the tech-priests are keeping people from their true salvation, he sees in them an opportunity to bring down Morod's masters and reclaim the world in the name of progress.

Revisado: 06-29-24
I did not expect the story to go in the way it did from the summary but it was mostly quite good. As usual the narrator did a great job.

Clever and fun story, some original elements that I enjoyed. As a break from more serious horror or sf this was a lot of fun.

It was ok but no Jack Vance
Revisado: 02-19-24
Very little of the Vance worldbuilding and mostly a nonexistent villain. But anything Vance universe is ok. As a standalone it would not really stand out.

Historia
Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip - a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfre. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there - which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier.

Decent narrator wasted on ersatz Dean Koontz story
Revisado: 06-19-23
I thought I would give The Troop a shot because it seemed like a solid plot and seemed to have ok reviews. The problem here is the author really has no theme he wants to stick with. Is it a psychopath-goes-crazy Lord of the Flies story? A story about science fiction worms - not one but three varieties? A parable if weight loss treatments? Who knows, and neither does the author.
For the author, less is more.

A solid book
Revisado: 06-19-23
I’ve only read the Xenos trilogy and the first dozen books of the Heresy. This book is a pretty solid fish-out-of-water view of the post heresy Imperium for someone who hasn’t read the fall of Terra part yet.

Jonathan Sleep is the best narrator - and the book is good
Revisado: 02-20-22
I thought I was going to be bored with this series by now and, truth be told book six was kind of a drag, but things are back on track now. I just hope Bevan sticks the landing. And actually writes one.
I’m writing this review mostly to comment on how amazing Jonathan Sleep is as a narrator / producer. Book eight was pretty impressive but good grief he’s just so good at this.

A monstrous apparatus has been found on the surface of the moon. It devours and destroys in ways so incomprehensible to humans that a new language must be invented to describe it and a new kind of thinking to understand it. So far, the human guinea pigs sent there in hopes of unraveling the murderous maze have all died terrible deaths - except the last, now on suicide watch. The ideal candidate won't go insane, even as he feels the end approaching. And now they think they've found their man. Al Barker has already stared into the face of death - he can handle it again.

Desperately needed an editor
Revisado: 05-13-19
The narrator was fine. I am someone who loves the stilted, awkward writing style of 1950s SF which this features in spades. The problem, however, is that this book features little else. Around the thirteenth time you hear exactly the same conversation between Hawks and his subject, you’ve had enough. This is the first audiobook I have ever fast-forwarded to get past the nth repeat of essentially the same dialog.
