Historia
When John U. Bacon played for the Ann Arbor Huron High School River Rats, he never scored a goal. Yet somehow, years later he found himself leading his alma mater’s downtrodden program. How bad? The team hadn’t won a game in over a year, making them the nation’s worst squad. With almost everyone expecting more failure, Bacon made it special to play for Huron by making it hard, which inspired the players to excel. Then he defied conventional wisdom again by putting the players in charge of team discipline, goal-setting, and even decision-making—and it worked.

Best coaching book I’ve read
Revisado: 05-29-24
This book could easily be turned into a movie. In fact, I’m surprised it hasn’t. Such an incredible story about a truly remarkable dumpster fire of a team that became a formidable force in Michigan high school hockey.
The author (and coach) is determined to turn his former high school hockey program around by instilling discipline and teaching the kids to become leaders and the best versions of themselves.
I wasn’t expecting to tear up listening to this book but I did several times. The story hits home for any hockey player or athlete that’s truly laid it on the line to work as hard as they could and to be the best possible teammate. I will definitely listen to this book again in a year or so.

Historia
The modern day youth sports environment has taken the enjoyment out of athletics for our children. Currently, 70% of kids drop out of organized sports by the age of 13, which has given rise to a generation of overweight, unhealthy young adults. There is a solution. John O'Sullivan shares the secrets of the coaches and parents who have not only raised elite athletes, but have done so by creating an environment that promotes positive core values and teaches life lessons instead of focusing on wins and losses.

Great book to look at coaching in different perspectives than maybe how you grew up being coached.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

DEFINITELY worth a listen!
Revisado: 08-30-21
I really enjoyed The Martian film with Matt Damon. I’ve seen it at least 5 times and I’m usually not a fan of reading (or listening) to a book after I’ve seen the movie. Takes all the suspense out of the book, but this anecdote couldn’t have been more wrong on this book.
The book and the movie didn’t stray too far apart from one another and I recognized a lot of the dialogue and scenes from the movie, but the amount of additional adventures and disasters that Mark endures on Mars gives the book a big leg up on the movie, not to mention all the nitty gritty details of the science and engineering side of things that the movie couldn’t spend much time on (I’m an engineer and enjoyed the added details).
I’ve heard other books read by Wil Wheaton and he does a pretty good job on this one. I think Wil is known for reading sci-fi books and has that nerdy type of voice; however, don’t expect him to give each character their own unique voice (pretty typical of Wil’s books).
Overall it’s a very good and relatively quick listen. Enjoy!
